Shooting Box: National Trust parking site. No facilities, stunning views across Shopshire, Cheshire and Brecon becons. Steep climb from Burrs in a mid size van with some harrowing hills on the way down. Avoid driving at rush hour, as lines of cars do not always yield or stop for trucks, and hill starts can be difficult on this grade. Wild horses and sheep all over the moor and blueberries. Level gravel paths make for a nice walk too. The address is: Ratlinghope Road, Church Stretton, SY6

Five stars because it would be stunning. HOWEVER, there's a brand new sign saying no overnight stays with a picture of a motorhome with a red line through it. I've had a great walk but I'm moving on for over night.

absolutely beautiful. as others have said, be careful on the drive up. I'm in a swb transit and was in 1st gear for most of the climb. really peaceful albeit cold and windy this time of year. Once or twice walkers pass by but all lovely. When the clouds lift, the views are amazing. *EDIT* 22/02/2023 just made the journey here to find now all areas are no overnight parking. it's now dark. Stayed here 1 night in Oct 2022 , Friday eve. Greta location with beautiful views of the moors. Had one set of boy drivers during the night come and ride around for 10 mins and one other camper but other than that great nights sleep. Great walks from here. National trust workers litter picking around 11am but all very friendly and no hassle. Would defo come again.

The sign at the bottom says 3 tons max- my van is a little over this, maybe 3.5 and made it up there although I wouldn't want to do it in winter. A couple of dog walkers and a few crazy runners. It was a real stormy night but no problems or signs saying camping prohibited I had 4g connection but it was weak

Good spot, out the way, woke up to another van along side, road isn't much more than a lane so very little passing traffic

Perfect spot for sunrise and sunset, views for miles in all directions. Quiet and peaceful. Good signal. Room for 5-6 vans realistically, stayed last night with 4 others and still felt like a good amount of space between us. Can get busy during day as popular with walkers. Few passing cars in the night but otherwise undisturbed. Never had issues here.

Een cadeautje deze locatie. De weg ernaar toe was prima te doen met een camper van 7 meter.

    great views, secluded, decent signal

Stopped here last night on a bit of a wet windy evening and we were the only van between 9pm and 7am. Such a peaceful stop and a lovely walk to Pole Bank summit in the morning is only 10/15 minutes.

Incredible spot to say. Road wasn’t as scary as expected, if you’ve done the NC500 in Scotland you’ll be grand. All parking spots have National trust ‘No overnight’ signs. We risked it anyway with no problems. Sprinter van 26.6.22

Small quiet NT Carpark. Stayed on a Saturday night and there was two others in the car park stopping the night. Didn’t get disturbed..Would stay again!

Great spot to stay but got hit by a storm. was there with 2 other camper vans and 1 camper car so felt pretty comfortable stopping. definitely going to stop again when the weather clears up!

A beautiful place, feels like you're a million miles from civilisation. I wasn't brave enough to stay overnight on this occasion but building up to it (it was a misty, damp night, very very dark, nothing but a few sheep and horses around, and my over active imagination!) Amazing drive, need to be brave as there is no turning back once the ascent begins, but well worth it.

beautiful spot, steep drive up on narrow roads so be aware.

Stunning parking location! There were 4 vans there when I arrived, but it was a bank holiday weekend. Around 9am someone came by taking pictures of all the vans, he didn't say who he was but he was clearly annoyed with people staying over night

Stayed here one night in my car camper and my partners van. Arrived in time to just about see the sun set, and woke up to a beautiful sunrise. Very quiet and disturbed spot, only noise came from our 9 year old company who was very excited. Apologies to our camper van neighbour..

Absolutely agree with others. A great spot for the sunset and uninterrupted views. Good location for walking too.

Lovely view for sunset and sunrise, got busy around 10:30am (Saturday morning) but other than 1 van and 1 car we had the place to ourselves.

We really enjoyed this stop. We parked up with friends as two Transporter campervans. There were no others there for night, but might have had something to do with cold temperatures, wind and rain! The drive is brilliant - take care and go slow. The views are amazing and the countryside is beautiful. We enjoyed a short walk, with several dog walkers and trekkers showing up in the morning.

We stayed last night, lovely place! A few other folks there who were friendly & polite. We car camped with no issues except someone turning up in the early hrs & filming us all!!! No visible signs to say no overnight stays. The sheep are VERY friendly and stayed close by, ponies visited in the morning too. Obviously no facilities but plenty of plant coverage.

An absolutely beautiful spot, stayed here 24/5/21 - no signs saying no overnight stay, lovely walks and views, very steep and narrow hill to get up though so keep that in mind.

  • 5/5

Stayed here 7/4/21, only one there and only heard one car after 10pm until 6am. Farmers drove by in the morning and didn't seem bothered I was there. Lovely views all around and plenty of walks too

  • 5/5

Stayed here, 24.10.20, no bother, only one there for most of the night. lovely walks and views.

  • 3/5

We stayed there on 26/08/2020 with one other Van, we drove up from Ratlinghope no signs and nothing to suggest no overnight parking but next morning a passing local advised no overnight parking was in force across the entire Long Mynd. Apparently there are signs along the Bur Way.

I've see this spot when in the car. Watch out in winter months as I believe the road is untreated in winter leaving black ice or snow.
