The Scar Park Aire is located on Kirranrae Farm, Kirkcolm by the shores of Wig Bay, Loch Ryan with views across the loch. The aire is situated on the main runway of the decommissioned RAF Wig Bay Airfield constructed of reinforced concrete ideal for siting a motorhome and access to toilet waste and a water tap is available at the site entrance. The Aire is located about half a kilometre from the main road, therefore providing a peaceful overnight stay.

The scenic area of Wig Bay includes a two mile coastal loop walk round the Bay, The Scar and Loch Ryan as well as a longer route up through the woodland on the Corsewall Estate which can all be accessed from the site.

The Scar Park is the name of the field the aire is located in. The field takes it’s name from The Scar, a bank of shingles that juts out into the loch at the end of Wig Bay and is most prominent at low tide. You will often see Oystercatchers along the Scar and occasionally in some of the fields by the shore as well.

Sehr freundlich. Wir empfehlen eine Reservierung in der Hochsaison.

Check-in und Check-out sind um 12 Uhr.

Anfahrt: W3W: shall.overlaps.basic

Came later than we hoped, the lady was so helpful, had the site to ourselves, so quiet, woke up to a lovely morning, and as planned we moved on, great to have an Elsan point as well as drinking water, very level and solid concrete all of the parking areas.

  • 5/5

Absolutely brilliant! Such a great location to stay and find some peace and quiet! This is an Aire and not a campsite, so you have basic facilities and what you bring with you, you take it away with you! But it has everything you need to relax and unwind in a stunning location. Great WiFi on EE and dog friendly with beach’s and local walks in the area.

  • 5/5

Great stop, well worth the £10. Filling and emptying facilities are fine and there are rubbish bins at the entrance of the car park. Had to move due to sheep coming into one half of the field but still loads of room.

  • 5/5

Stayed 2 nights mid Sept. No booking, just turned up. Used alternative entrance as main entrance has lip that might have caught our Moho underslung pipework. Big, flat, open pitches, fresh water and toilet waste at gate before the pitches. No litter facilities. Excellent value, very quiet, safe, secure location. Pitches widely spaced apart. Great local walks, all signposted. Left cash payment.

  • 5/5

Amazing Aire. Please come and visit. We are so lucky that people provide these parkups for us. Great location and fabulous views. Plenty of space between pitches. Great beach walk

  • 5/5

Alles das vorhanden was man braucht! 10 Sterne!!

  • 5/5

Stayed one night before ferry in the morning. Ideal for me. I arrived without a booking but was quickly and efficiently accepted. £10 to park safely and quietly. For a female travelling solo this was just perfect.

  • 5/5

Fantastic location, easy communication with the owner. 5 pitches well spaced out with lovely views.

  • 5/5

  • 5/5

Beautiful quiet spot, with plenty of space between pitches. I’d certainly recommend this Aire and will be returning in the future. Thanks to Eilidh for such an opportunity to enjoy this beautiful and tranquil location .

  • 5/5

I echo everything that has previously been written. A great place to stay, loads of room, decent Vodaphone and O2 reception. superb 360degree views.

  • 5/5

30 mins from the ferry to Belfast. What an incredible place! You could park an aircraft on each parking bay (literally!) and still have loooooaaaads of space. There were Skylarks, Oystercatcher, and Whitethroat to break the silence that hurt your ears. Use the carpark entrance from the road. Check in /paying is very straightforward. There's a bird hide on the coast path. A place to absorb.

  • 5/5

Unique site with a fascinating history...parked up on a pitch formerly occupied by any one of a list of historic flying-boats. Extensive, 360° views but that also indicates it can be a little bit breezy! Entrance gate through the car park, just message the number on the sign and pay via the QR code. No chance of overcrowding here (unless you are an aircraft) as concrete pads are very well spaced!

  • 5/5

This Aire is open. You just drive through gate and pay either via qr code, or cash in honesty box. 2nd time of coming here. You can cycle(uphill) to light house for a drink/meal, walks along seashore. Recommend.

  • 1/5

Tout est fermé, impossible de stationner. On a tourné dans tous les sens. Dommage

  • 5/5

Great wee stop over. We’ll run and so quiet

  • 5/5

Bit fiddly to find, so rather “hidden in plain sight”. We sailed by the turning (look for the big speed camera sign). Through the 2 gates keep going following the reflective arrows, past the toilet disposal, until the track bends right and ends. Recommend facing due south/into the prevailing wind. Very windy night! No light pollution so a beautiful dark sky. Take a telescope and a big torch!

  • 5/5

Great site, good views and services available. Is a good spot to see all the stars at night as well.

  • 4/5

I am sure it is fabulous in the summer. It is a very exposed site and unfortunately the weather was bad, very windy. Very good value and I would go again at a different time of year. Also there are about 5 animal gates to open and close as you go through and a lot of sheep and cows and the mess they leave, perhaps they aren't kept there at other times of the year.

  • 5/5

Arrived planning to stay 1 night but after settling on pitch, we extended to 4 nights. Arrival is straightforward, call number on board, pay fee via QR code on board, park and relax. Black waste dump and fresh water available. No shower block etc. this suits our needs and style of travelling. Very peaceful with loads wildlife to see. Loch Ryan walk and beach wandering highly recommended.

  • 5/5

  • 5/5

Great little site for 5 vans. Each park up has a mass of space with this being an old airbase. Fresh water and chemical toilet disposal are available. Decent 4G phone signal on both 02 and EE.

  • 5/5

What a great place WW2 seaplane base , very quiet, max 5 vans perfect view out to sea , very friendly warden , great walks and fresh water and disposal available , Defo return to site .

  • 5/5

Lovely stay- easy to book via Facebook and pay online. Friendly owner. Great history to the aire. Did the walk along the beach and through the woods- lots to see. Great to have black waste and water. Was full with 5 vans last night.

  • 5/5

  • 5/5

Peaceful place, quiet and safe. Perfect distance to the ferry. Really helpful owner of the parking. Empty toilet and get fresh water. Perfect!

  • 5/5

If you want peace, then this is the place too come,we just spent 2 lovely nights here.this being an old ww2 airbase for sea planes and you park on the old plane stands..so bags of room between vans..i booked via whatsapp and sumup payments.Owner is very helpful.great for walking along the shell covered beach and the views over Loch Ryan .toilet emptying and fresh water only..but well worth it.

  • 5/5

Ein richtig geiler Stellplatz! Mit Hund ideal und Platz ohne Ende. Ruhe pur.

  • 5/5

Wonderful, slightly wild spot near Loch Ryan. Our only neighbours had 4 legs and we had the unique experience of watching a newborn calf taking his first unsteady steps. Lovely owners too. Elildh took time to welcome us and help us plan a trip to the Outer Hebrides later this year. Highly recommended stopover !

  • 5/5

Easy to book and pay. Really unique location with great walks in the local estate. Maximum of 5 units per nights as or licensing regulations - It’s a shame that some people can’t/don’t follow the rules of staying here which could potentially spoil it for everyone.

  • 5/5

A privilege to stay in this idyllic spot. Agree with all the previous comments. Might get a bit hairy if the wind gets up.

  • 5/5

Arrived before sunset, fuss free system with multiple options to pay and chemical toilet disposal and water tap, not drinking. Huge numbers of geese, oystercatchers and curlew and beautiful views across Loch Ryan to the Ireland bound ferries. Spacious, with a rich history and time and room to reflect. A wonderful aire, will definitely be back.

  • 5/5

Amazing place to stay. Easy contact with owners and lovely walk around the perimeter. Recommended.

  • 5/5

Great place to stay. Great views of loch Ryan and surrounding areas. Once past the first gate follow the arrows.

  • 5/5

Great place to park up, plenty of space due it being an old airfield, the area is great for walks, coos & sheep in adjacent fields, quiet & peaceful park and we will definitely be back to explore some more. Thanks again Eilidh

  • 5/5

Beautiful little spot to stay, nice walks to be had along the beach. Well worth the £10 night charge. Peaceful night's sleep next to the sheep & cows. it's an exposed area, wind is likely as with all water side locations Please remember this is an actual working farm. Farm animals, & all farming activities & mess happens. It's their livelihood day to day.

  • 5/5

Fantastic spot. Stayed over before catching the ferry to Ireland the next day. Lovely big bays with views over Loch Ryan. Peaceful night sleep.

  • 1/5

on arrival we collected screws and nails from hardstanding expected a peaceful night about 5pm tractors came cutting the grass and spreading it all over we left hardstanding and contacted owners they told us to go back to hardstanding after grass was cut we did it was full of grass and flies everywhere got refund back of owners mother in law not peaceful won't go back

  • 5/5

What a stunning and unique place. I phoned ahead to Eilidh to reserve a spot as we were meeting friends and paid for our 1st night upfront. Then paid for our additional night again via app. Great views, good walks and good services. We highly recommend and will visit again.

  • 5/5

Super plan. On recommande.

  • 5/5

  • 5/5

Superbe endroit, quel calme, quel paysage magnifique ! Seulement 5 véhicules. C'est parfait !

  • 5/5

One of my favourite stopovers in Scotland so far, massive flat pitch, right next to loch Ryan, lovely walks along the beach, especially when the sun is out, and all for £10!

  • 5/5

This place is nothing short of magnificent. We spent two nights here in June with glorious sunshine so our solar panels were very happy. Owners are super-responsive. Very unique setting with water views all around. A great place to stay if waiting for the ferry or if you just want to unwind.

  • 5/5

Found this by chance. Very well organised place. Owner was really lovely. Peaceful and lovely scenery. Great walk alone beach then up to local pub. Certainly be back.

  • 5/5

Great night. Lovely and quiet. Good position and plenty of room. Good views over loch Ryan - bit foggy in the morning but soon burnt off. Lovely walk along the beach and out on the headland with the tide out. Well worth staying. Adria 640twin camper van.

  • 5/5

Extraordinary view of the bay & surrounding countryside. Easy access to walk around Loch Ryan. A huge thank you to Eilidth & Jack for the park up provided. £5 per night. Spacious, black waste emptying (£5 additional charge) & fresh water & plenty ways to pay. Not to dog owners, livestock nearby, keep it respectful & clean up after your dog & self. Highly recommended. Will come again.

  • 5/5

What a lovely place to stay! Right next to the loch with walks to local pub. £5 per night with fresh water tap. Extra £5 for black water waste now available. Very quiet night surrounded by water, sheep and cows.☆☆☆☆☆

  • 5/5

What a great spot to get too. Lots of room, very friendly owners brilliant scenery. Most certainly will be back.

  • 5/5

This is a great location - cannot fault it. Drinking water only see need to ensure you can be self sufficient and take your rubbish away

  • 5/5

Good park up, nice and quiet, great views.

  • 5/5

This has to be the best aire I have been on. Amazing location. Awesome pitch. Fresh water, plenty of signs making it easy to pay. Black tank being installed. will definitely be back. cant recommend this site highly enough. At a fiver a night it's also a real bargain.

  • 5/5

Beautiful location, with easy access to Wig Bay / Loch Ryan shores. Thoroughly enjoyed two peaceful days and nights last weekend on my first outing with the van. Highly recommend this aire and will definitely be back for more one or two day stays. Great sea fishing marks when conditions are tight!

  • 5/5

I have visited often. It’s a stunning location with fantastic views over Loch Ryan and Wig Bay. There are a number of nice walks around Wig Bay. The Blue Peter pub is a few minutes walk away in Kirkcolm. The aire is growing, now taking 5 vans. It has a couple of fresh water taps and a new black waste facility is almost ready. Still costing £5 a night it is incredible value.

  • 5/5

we made a return visit to coincide with the family wedding taking place nearby. Very peaceful. Owner/hostess provided lots of info on local walks and cycle routes. Looking forward to the proposed waste disposal getting commissioned.

  • 5/5

  • 5/5

excellent stop over. the young lady at the farm is so accomadating. they have everything we need. eg water. just hope it doesn't get too popular and people start taking advantage. like stopping weeks, having b.b.q.s etc. Oh and emptying their waste. absolutely NO need for that.

  • 5/5

Excellent place. Acres of space for 5 vans and lovely views over Loch Ryan. Currently just a water tap available but plans are afoot to add an Elsan point. Fantastic walk from the site along the shore and over Clachan Hill. Good pub in the village - Blue Peter. Highly recommended. All this for £5 a night.

  • 5/5

Nice quiet place to park up £5 a night only 5 spaces we arrived at 5pm only one other motorhome here will definitely use again if in this area

  • 5/5

A real find! Wonderful views over Wig Bay. Direct access to the shoreline and local walks along the beaches, or through woodland. Good access over private road to level concrete pitches. Owners very friendly and helpful. No facilities apart from a water tap, but a bargain at £5/night.

  • 5/5

Excellent location. Great views to Loch Ryan. Watch the ferries arrive and depart for N Ireland. Very quiet as its 600m from the main road. Highly recommended

  • 5/5

Quiet site with good views. Water available. Some good walks directly from site.
