(NE47 7JN) Hexham - Unnamed Road

I stayed the night, arrived late and didn’t see any cars or vans. Got woken up by the farmer cutting the hedge next to the van just before 7am, not sure if it was bad timing or if campers are not welcome. Shame really because it’s a lovely location and very peaceful.

14/12/24.It's the overflow car park for Vindolanda. Really dark and quiet. Bit of a slope. Upto MWB vans only I'd say. Patronised the visitor centre in the morning. We were heading off in the morning so can't comment on the local area. Would stay again.

We came late during the night and we were surprised with the view fř the car in the morning. Thanks for this nice and calm place, no midges there.

Petit spot sur la bordure d’une route de village avec peu de passage. Vue sur les prairies et les moutons. À disposition, une poubelle et des bancs. Merci aux habitants des alentours de tolérer notre présence. L’endroit était propre et nous l’avons laissé dans le même état.

I stayed 1 night, a great little spot. I asked at Vindolanda first and would have gone back to visit and have breakfast but sadly not dog friendly.

Amazing spot. Roads a full open. I asked in Vindolanda museum if I could stay the night and they said no problem, in the bitum parking, not the gravel park as its not them property. Fantastic night, very quiet. No 4G in the carpark, but on the small road next to it, I have signal.

Superb quiet park up. Arrived after 9pm and left early. Worth the detour off the main road. Romain remains look superb.

Straße gesperrt und nicht mehr zugänglich

Es gibt zwei Parkplätze. Ich habe den kleinen Schotterplatz östlich von Violanda (auf dem ersten Bild abgebildet) genutzt. Der andere ist westlich von Violanda, asphaltiert und für größere Camper besser zugänglich (auf den anderen Bildern zu sehen). Auf dem kleinen war ich alleine und es war eine angenehme ruhige Nacht. Ist aber etwas schräg. Wanderungen und die Ausgrabungsstätte lohnen sich.

Great little spot. Had no problems at all. Gave the kids the job of litter picking the car park. On arrival. Lovely jubbly

3 car parks for this site. Main one where we stayed with no problems. Arrived late and visited the ruins the next day. To be further out the way, use other car park; gravelled and smaller. Be careful which way you enter due to a 3Tweight restriction and narrow, steep roads. "Only access" allowed between the car parks but I wouldn't take a big vehicle down there; low branches, tight and narrow

Stayed the night on way to Newcastle, great free site no restrictions although roads to site are narrow so only a campervan. No facilities whatsoever. Great for exploring Hadrians wall and the Twice brewed pub about a 20 min walk.

Great big carpark. Designated Camper area for 4 vans. No cars there after 6.30pm for us, so we parked in a car spot with a better vista! Level and well worth paying to visit the Roman site and museum, it was fabulous.

Lovely quiet spot near the Roman Fort and museum with no restrictions. Lovely walk with dog past the visitors centre.

Quiet and peaceful.

Very quiet and peaceful and no traffic noise we have heard one car pass by this morning and the cattle in the background , lovely location. We were the only ones, no signs saying no over night, we left no trace
