We were originally going to stay here overnight but ran out of gas. Went out to get more and were advised that wardens were going around at 5am ticketing vehicles. We moved somewhere else for the night.

Stayed one night on a Friday in Jan. Contrary to the no overnight parking signs, you are allowed to park here for 24 hours, and in Winter the pay machines are all closed off so no charge. Brilliant location next to the Abbey, short distance into the town (if you don’t mind quite a few steps!). Public toilets open from around 9am - 5pm, 50p. Plenty of space, around 20 vans there when we stayed.
Spend a night between Xmas and NY here. One of the best in the area. 30 other different campers and motorhomes here. Loads of room.
Spent New Years Eve here. At 0830 New Year's day I counted 80 campers. Grassed area was boggy and one or two big vans needed a push but it was manageable. Very windy overnight but to be expected oh headland in winter. Short walk into town. Perfect location for us. We'll be going again
With having a coach conversion motorhome we find places hard to get in but we did our homework and found this had coach parking, it has fantastic views with a small walk to the Abbey. Town was very close with an amazing atmosphere and great fish and chips! There were quite a few campers but no one bothered us or moved us on. Free until the 1st of march. (Ignore the signs as wrong as advised).
went on 27 Dec at about 1pm expecting it to be quiet, it was rammed! We couldn't get in. Tried on the grass but got bogged down, only just made it out. Went back on 28th at about 10am and got a nice spot, however still very busy. Lots of campers there from the previous day. It is a great spot. Perfect to visit the Abby and the town.
Excellent winter park up as free Nov - Feb, we stayed 2 nights and felt very comfortable, nice and level, you could easily do a few more nights if needed. Easy walk into town, Whitby Brewery is a few mins away on the way into town too, open until 9pm. A few other vans and motorhomes there but nothing like Summertime obviously.
make sure you pay the 24hr parking fee and leave no trace the rangers are fine with it. All in a good cause for English Heritage.
Great park up, paid £10 for 24hrs and as long as you have a ticket the rangers are fine. I did see 3 vans with parking ticket. So make sure you pay. Very windy but a peaceful sleep. Lots of space. There was around 20 vans and tent boxes set up. I would stay again.
Stayed overnight here 30/3/25 . There are signs saying no overnight parking , but it doesn’t get locked and plenty do it. You can pay for 24hrs at the machine. Think the signs are redundant. Great place to stay.
This now has signs saying no parking overnight.
Free from 6pm til 9am so makes a good little overnight park up with just a short walk into town
Good place for an overnight stay. Paid for 24 hours but nobody came to check. Great views of the Abbey and the YHA bar/cafe is also very close. Slightly windy but overall very quiet
Super womo Stellplatz ab November alles frei ,alle Schilder außer Kraft .Stehen auf Gras. Für 0.was will man mehr .Dank an die Stadt. schaut von oben bei Google dan seht ihr diesen herrlichen Platz.
Fantastic park up, Amazing
I park here regularly there is signs saying no overnight parking but i dont think anyone checks
Got some great shot of the van in front of the abbey but there are signs saying No Parking/Camping Overnight in both the grassy area or the parking lot gravel area. We did see a few tents pitched all night in the corner though but we don’t wanna chance it. Great day spot if heading into town this direction. Otherwise free parking is on the road nearby.
free to park from 6pm to 9am. Many no camping, cooking, sleeping signs. Luckly I wasn't camping, I was parked. I wasn't cooking, take away from town and I didn't sleep all night...honest officer. 4 vans, 7 cars and a tent there last night. No hassle.
Despite the signs we stayed over the weekend and it was perfect. Have stayed previously (with the signage in place) without any problems. Highly recommended.
Definitely no overnight parking very disappointing I’ve enjoyed staying here
parking daytime only
Some stay there over night, however there are lots of signs clearly saying no over night parking, depends if you want to risk it. We didn’t stay!
No overnight parking signs now! Very disappointing as we've parked here on numerous occasions for days/nights out in Whitby. Sure all these clamp downs heavily effect local businesses.
Another great spot gone! No overnight parking signs throughout the car park
Great spot good pretty level parking - plenty of room. Ideal camp , free at this time of year , toilets 40p close by Great for dogs Easy walk into lovely fishing grounds town of Whitby down many steps but not too bad if average fit.
Really great, plenty of flat space for parking, and quiet overnight. Fantastic views from some of the areas, and toilets are open till 8 pm as well. Lots of campervan there when we went, various sizes. Plenty of room for all. A short five minute walk down to the shops! Free from Nov to March 1st! Amazing, recommended!
Brilliant stop, highly recommend, free during Winter months, loads of camper vans there last night for the Christmas market and fireworks. Ate and drank in town both days so win, win for a great park up and supporting community. However, please don’t ruin it by parking on the grass in very wet conditions. Saw 2 vans struggling to get out and leaves a right mess with ground all carved up.
Used this park-up with trepidation, having seen videos of some of the parking practices here - but no dramas in November, bar the hilarity of watching those who for some reason thought it would be ok to park in the swampy grass areas and became stuck :) Managed without ramps, but some spots are a bit sloping. Good spot in Autumn.
There are what feels like a thousand steep steps down to the village. But every step is worth it …!
we pulled in to a soggy park up so nothing unexpected when got stuck . arrived 19.30 Friday night £9 to park for 2nights off by 9am Sunday good deal .Nice lady and son next to us pulled us out the mud thank you to her and son . there is someone about to tow out if needed
En la noche muy tranquilo, sin servicios. Pero por el valor de 2 libras vale la pena. Los camping cercanos cuestan cerca de 35 lbs.
Fantastic place to be able to park a Motorhome and spend the day in Whitby would definitely recommend £9 for 24hrs loads of room on the grassy area.
Absolutely stunning place to park! Big grassy area with lots of vans, felt very reassuring. £9 for 24hrs, with toilets (40p). Right on top of the hill next to the abbey and 2mins from a local brewery. 5 min walk into town (a lot of steps though mind you!). Great signal on O2 and EE.
It is a lovely spot. The weather was warm with a light breeze. In worse weather, it is a very exposed spot, so it might be a bit less enjoyable. Parking warden visited towards 6 pm. Nice brewery nearer the Abbey. A walk down and back up 70ish steps and a long slope to the town.
Wasn’t too busy when I arrived roughly 20:00, toilets around the corner but unsure on what time they close, 40p too - cash & contactless. Quiet site too. Free from 6pm to 9am I think. Will definitely return.
Great park up. lovely views would definitely use again worth the 9 pounds
Amazing place to stay in your campervan, Very clean and tidy, Lovely spot to see Whitby, I will be going again and again ? Thank you Whitby.
Great place clean nice and quiet on a night time £9 for 24 hours, bargain. short walk into Whitby.
Payment for parking done by app and it won’t let us pay as it says ‘Vehicle Type Not Permitted At This Location’ so the app obvious checks DVLA and finds we are a motor camper. Just pay by card at the machine instead. No signs to say not permitted. Quite a nice spot with views of the Abbey. Stayed here about 36hrs.
Posto perfetto con vista sull'abbazia. Molto tranquillo e silenzioso. Consigliato.
If you use the big places for motohomes, you'll get stuck in the grass/mud. If you use the car parks, there is not enough room. If you want to walk to the city from this place, there is a lot of 25% hills, not apropiate for elders/cycles. On weekends, this place is very crowded. Be aware.
good spot amazing views of beautiful Whitby. only £9 for 24 hours but it is free from 6pm
Parked up for the day. But great spot with amazing views
Large carpark, no overnight parking. Free to park from November to March. Great view of Abbey & walk into town.
Haben hier Geparkt, um die Stadt anzuschauen. Kurze Wege zur Altstadt. Großer Parkplatz auch für Riesenmobile geeignet.....
If you're less able to walk down stone steps avoid this and aim for the car park at the Co-op, as this way into town takes you down 199 stone steps. No overnighting, tarmac spaces can be busy and filled up quick so chances are you might have to use the overflow area (which isn't fantastically level, thinking of gas fridges) on the left side of the car park as you go in.
Please note All whitby sands end and Scarborough are not usable for overnight. the local council have been cracking down and you will be charged
Bel posto dove passare la giornata,no sleeping.
