Great spot away from the road just over the Scottish boarder and very quiet! 3 other campervans were there when we arrived but car park was plenty big enough for us all, with lots of space available! Toilets available on the car park weren’t the nicest but was good to have access to them and they were open all night. Would happily stay here again on a future trip!

  • 4/5

Quiet car park, away from the road. Small shop in village

  • 5/5

Wonderful place with a great cafe (delicious vegan cake!). Can be very busy with visitors and hikers. Lovely hikes nearby. There is a water tap in the churchyard (footpath access only) to fill up the odd bottle. We had good mobile signal on Tesco and ID Mobile.

  • 4/5

quiet, safe, toilets reasonably clean, lovely walks for doggo. I only managed 1 bar for signal if that on 3 network if that is needed from someone. otherwise lovely park up!

  • 5/5

lovely village. The Park up reminds me of Tintern Abbey. There's a donation at the pub, cafe or there's even bank transfer details stapled to a post. There's many walks to be enjoyed

  • 5/5

Really great place to park overnight. enough space for loads of vans. Quiet and with toilets. Next to old Abbey. quiet village with shop, pub and cafe but opening hours erratic!

  • 5/5

stayed for the one night flat , quiet and safe toilets open during the day also water tap just inside the grave yard ( won't be able to pull next to it :( ) we went to the pub had drinks and gave a donation for the local area everyone seems friendly, lots of bats in the evening :)

  • 4/5

Lovely place to stay for the night and to visit the village. The abbey is very interesting and there is a water mill in the village. The walk up to the Waterloo monument takes about an hour and a half there and back (quite steep in places). Shop is well stocked with essentials and the coffee at the Cafe was good. No noise all night but people start arriving around 9am to walk dogs or hike.

  • 5/5

Great park up. nice flat surface. Lovely atmospheric abbey, little walk into village had a drink in the pub and left a donation for the school. toilets open. great start to our holiday in Dumfries and Galloway 7 campers when we were there but plenty of room, even for bigger units.

  • 5/5

Excellent park up. Clean. Quiet. Safe. Car park lit up in the evening. Public toilets were open 24/7. Old but clean and looked after. Local residents and shop keepers etc were welcoming, pleasant and helpful. Meals were good in cafe and we also purchased some goodies at the newsagents. We left some monies at the shop for our stay in the village. We highly recommend New Abbey.

  • 5/5

  • 5/5

Superb spot flat quiet in the heart of a lovely village with toilets open 24/7 one of the best stops yet , ruined abbey at side of car park although fenced off for repairs , very busy stop when I was there August around 10 units by Dark , plenty of phone signal on EE , shop and pub in village I can't recommend this one enough , please spend in the village or donate to support this stop

We want to thank the carpark owners for allowing us to camp overnight free of charge. A beautiful view of the Abbey and also of the field at the back of the carpark. The big street light made us feel safe, I'd stay here as a lone camper. We had breakfast at the cottage tearoom and it was lovely, good quality food. Very dog friendly. We would highly recommend staying here. R x

Great car park. Spacious and nice and quiet with plenty of walks around. Currently the abbey is being renovated so there’s scaffolding and barriers around it but you can still appreciate its beauty! The local hotel/ pub the Abbey Arms doesn’t accept card or bank transfer and the nearest cash point is Dumfries so if you’re planning on popping into there don’t get caught out!

  • 5/5

The perfect little spot for an overnight stay. Felt very safe as a lone female. Toilets very old and dated but useable and open all night. Water tap inside ladies. We arrived late and left early so didn’t get to use the cafe but it looked very quaint! The abbey is cornered off for restoration work but you can still see it and admire its beauty, alongside the graveyard.

  • 5/5

Thank to the community of New Abbey for allowing motorhomes to overnight on this car park. Toilets available in the car park and the cafe next to the car park provides good food and a friendly welcome. Some nice walks locally too. There’s also a village shop.

  • 5/5

Great park up nice and quiet 20 mins away from supermarkets. A few fellow campers too, plenty of room to park for atleast 20 cars/vans.

  • 5/5

Just stopped for lunch. Toilets open, cafe closed. Great stop, thanks very much to the Community.

  • 4/5

A great park up next to Sweetheart Abbey, only 3 other vans the night we stayed. A very peaceful night’s sleep. Public toilet open all night, water tap in the women’s. Convenience store selling all the basics, cafe next to Sweetheart Abbey. However, very strange pub, most of the taps were off, didn’t have a lot of drinks and cash only

  • 5/5

Excellent stopover here 2 nights ago, quiet and flat but: 1. pub landlord suggested our tyres would be let down if we didn't donate £5 to the community fund (happy to make a donation but not under threat) 2. planning application notice proposes change to T&Cs for parking (marked bays, charges?)

  • 5/5

Large, quiet flat car park. Other apps suggest donating £5 or more in the community box up at the pub as a good will / thank you gesture. We stayed on a Thursday and there was a fish & chip van in the car park which did very nice chips! Please leave this car park as you found / would wish to find it if you want it to continue to be there. Our neighbours disappointingly let their grey waste out.

  • 5/5

Very nice, quiet, cafe at entrance, 7 motorhomes here, no worries. Just what we need and like. If self sufficient it's spot on. Toilets including disabled, if you have a key then all the bases covered. They were open all night, we'll be back. Thank you New Abbey.

  • 5/5

Large flat paved parking lot at the beautiful Sweetheart Abbey ruins. 3 other campers besides us. Very quiet night. Good phone signal.

  • 5/5

Vam fer aturada técnica per dinar i veure l'Abadia, no ens vam quedar a dormir, però sens dubte és un bon lloc per passar la nit.

  • 5/5

Sur parking de sweetheart abbey. Nuit autorisée. Parking gratuit. Wc publics fermés le soir. Abbaye fermée pour travaux. Joli village de New abbey.

Surtout gardez cet endroit propre svp

  • 5/5

Great spot. Nice and flat. Couldn’t wish for anything more

  • 5/5

Quiet car park, several other campervans/motorhomes. Bins available, toilets in car park. Next to an impressive ruined Abbey. New Abbey is a very pretty and quaint little village. A lovely quiet night's sleep.

  • 5/5

Fab spot! peaceful, toilets open, lovely look around the Abbey too while here. would recommend climbing criffel down to road! superb views!

  • 5/5

Very peaceful night, only overnighters on the car park. Good pint in the Abbey Arms Hotel 2 mins away, landlord very informative about other places to visit and park for the night. Toilets were open all night, though landlord at the hotel told us they are usually locked overnight.

  • 5/5

Great free park up. The cafe by the entrance to the car park is brilliant. Was busy on a Sunday until about 4ish. 7 vans total staying 11/9/22 but loads of space. Toilets aren’t the best and were shut overnight.

  • 5/5

Really good free little spot for about 20 vehicles with a fantastic view of the abbey. Toilets free and open all night

  • 5/5

A really interesting spot next to the wonderful ruined abbey. Plenty of room in the car park, we’ll set back from the quite busy road. Good toilet and bin facilities. Nice village shop and pub across the road. Great thanks to the villagers who welcomed us.

  • 5/5

Lovely quiet village with excellent tea rooms on the edge of the car park. A pleasant short walk through the grave yard and field down to the river.

  • 5/5

Stayed here on the 16th July. A large car park. There was one other campervan. Very quiet and peaceful. There are toilets open 24 hours.

  • 5/5

A beautiful spot in a beautiful village. Toilets stay open if the locals see you in the car park. There’s a cracking tea room, local shop and pub in the village along with some great walking routes too. There is a tap in the cemetery - not for us. Responsible one nighters are welcome. Dirty campers /people staying too will long put this lovely spot at risk of closure.

  • 4/5

Parking allowed now signs were only temporary, stopped 2 days no problem nice walk by the river

  • 3/5

Nice big car park, but a new sign gone up. no overnight parking. :(

  • 4/5

Toilets and a tap. Room for quite a few vans. Very quiet night. Stayed just the 1. Great walks locally for you and the dog. Route details available on the boards on site. Beautiful Abbey ruins to capture on camera at su rise and a great cafe on site. Gets very busy during the day. Highly recommend.

  • 5/5

Easy to find, plenty of room overlooking the abbey and fields with cows for neighbours. Toilets are open (and I think possibly all night too). Five other units there so felt very easy and safe for my first ever off-site camp.

  • 4/5

Lovely spot, large car park very peaceful with nice views over the fields and Abbey. Toilets are shut at the moment I expect due to Covid-19. We would definitely recommend..
