Good park up for visiting the nice town, staff were pleasant but unfortunately the standard of the food was poor.

  • 5/5

Booked in for one night but ended up staying for two. Friendly staff. Nice pub and nice food ,continental breakfast in the pub from 7 am £5. Bargain. Short walk into lovely town centre. We would highly recommend this pub stopover and would love to return in the future

  • 4/5

A nice place to stop over, friendly staff, decent food, and quiet until around 7ish in the morning, but the traffic didn't disturb us. Would definitely stop here again.

  • 5/5

Absolutely lovely people, felt very catered for. They don’t mind you using their spacious carpark for overnight stays as long as you buy a pint or two or maybe some grub. There’s an outdoor tap too. They offered a continental breakfast for £5 which was delicious and defo worth the money. Barney is a beautiful place and im finding it difficult to get back on the road after this visit!

  • 5/5

Great park up. Three other vans but all was quiet. We ate in the pub and the food was lovely. Only problem was torrential rain the whole time but we went out for a walk into Barnard castle anyway

  • 5/5

We had our evening meal in the pub and the food was lovely and reasonably priced. Staff were really friendly and welcoming and helpful. Level carpark and was really quiet at night. Will definitely come back on our travels.

Fantastic stopover, made very welcome and dog friendly. Parking is free they do ask you to have a bite to eat or a drink, which is fair. We decided to have a meal and then breakfast in the morning, gave us a day off cooking. The road is quiet at night and car park is level. Please note there are limited spaces they ask you to phone ahead and book to avoid disappointment. Definitely stay again.

With the pub doing breakfast they are open early so you can use toilets. Would highly recommend but book ahead as it gets very busy for campervan parking.

Excellent stop over. Exceptionally helpful and friendly staff, helped us out with an issue with our water. Good pub grub at very reasonable prices. Breakfast set us up for the day. There was 2 vans on when we arrived early afternoon and approx 6 when we returned late afternoon. Lovely 15/20 minute riverside walk into town through the woods or along the rd.

Spent the night with 4 other Motorhomes so definitely ring up before Getting there. The lunch menu is a fantastic price (around £5 for jacket potatoes and sandwiches). Parked close to a main road but it was actually quiet.

  • 5/5

perfect stopover for barnard castle. we had a few drinks and a breakfast which was OK. we couldn't get a taxi in the pouring rain but the kind manager gave us a lift into town. thanks. definitely recommend.

Great one night stop over - phoned ahead. Ate in the pub nice food and friendly staff. Town centre is walkable

  • 5/5

As others have said, best to ring ahead to be sure. we rocked up on a weekday and were probably lucky to get in as there were already four vans there - might have squashed a couple more in, but getting nearer to the road. Very friendly in the pub for a drink or food, but no commitment to do so.

  • 5/5

Good location safe and level car park, good mobile signal. Pub food good. Excellent and helpful landlord. Would recommend phoning in advance as car park spaces limited

  • 5/5

Lovely stopover, parking space was reserved and was met by landlady in car park. Parking free. Lovely evening meal and breakfast. Very welcoming and only 5 mins drive to Barnard Castle

  • 5/5

nice stop over nice food at a fare price.they do like you to phone and book as they're popular

  • 5/5

What a place, free park up with access to toilets. Went in and asked if it was ok to park, asked how it worked. Told park up and it is up to you whether you want to have a drink in the bar or have a meal. We had dinner and breakfast both which were excellent and reasonable prices. If you are planning to use it at the weekend you are encouraged to phone in advance as it is becoming very popular.

  • 4/5

stayed last night, good food in the pub at reasonable price. small car park, but only van there, quiet night until 5am when staff started arriving next door.

  • 4/5

Stayed 1 night, November 2023. Flat car park, not huge, but no trouble parking mid-week. Pub is very nice, with good food and very friendly staff. Called ahead, but not needed. Dog owners be aware - nowhere obvious for dog walking.

  • 5/5

Lovely stopover, very helpful staff and wonderful full roast dinner. Very recommended and great base to explore the beautiful village of Barnard Castle. Thanks Red Well.

Easy to find, approachable staff. We were only Campervan here, car park and pub were very busy but we felt welcome. As for the food well, it was 100% perfect. tasty, generous portions and not expensive. Will be back

  • 5/5

Nice little pub a very friendly staff. Spoke to owner on arrival and bought done drinks and evening meal. food was very nice and not too expensive. Close to road and I thought it would be noisy but wasn't. Nice location and worth a visit if in the area. Town was very nice and worth a walk into local area if you have time. a good 4.5 but can only give a 4 or 5.

  • 5/5

Really welcoming reception and fantastic food. We were here on a Tuesday in early February and there was only 1 other campervan in the car park. Highly recommended and an ideal stopover

We stayed here Friday 14/4/22. Really nice place, the food was spot on and the bar and atmosphere was really good, they also serve breakfast and it's a decent breakfast too. We called ahead to check for over night stay and everything was good. Would stay again and would recommend. Great place if you're touring the north.

  • 2/5

Tried staying there tonight (Sunday 30th Jan ‘22). Pulled in at about 5pm for dinner and drinks, only to be told they’d just stopped serving meals, even though there wasn’t a soul in the place. Atmosphere was grim, signal terrible and well, just not what we were expecting, so we left to find somewhere cosier.

  • 4/5

We stayed over on sat night. Plenty of spaces. Level parking. Popped in after tea for pudding and a few drinks. The staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming. Children 8&6 were welcomed. Road was unnoticeable overnight. Breakfast available if you want it-rooms in pub and small caravan park out at the back. Excellent overnight close to town.

  • 4/5

Absolutely fantastic stay here the staff are amazing the food is fantastic, lovely and quiet obviously there is car noise from the road but didn’t bother us , food is well priced each of our meals were £10 each well worth a stop off we arrived 8pm Ish Saturday evening didn’t ring ahead and there were 4 other vans on the car park, will definitely stay again .

  • 4/5

Lovely meal and staff (not cheap though). Just down the road there is the £4 per night car park at Morrison’s

  • 5/5

Had a lovely meal Friday night COVID compliant early bird menu up to 7.30pm value for money.Asked if we could leave motorhome in car park Saturday morning for a couple of hours whilst we walked into town, no problem will definately go back.

  • 1/5

Was closed for refurbishment call ahead to avoid disappointment. There is a car park at the Abby just outside town we used instead was lovely.

  • 5/5

Great local place, the family that run it are very nice and welcoming. No need to phone ahead, just pop in and ask if it’s ok to stay. They do breakfast which is really good, we paid £5.50 each, which we were happy to pay for since we got to park for free.

  • 5/5

Great place to stay only a 10minute walk from the town centre so offers a quiet stay even at the weekend. The staff at this inn are very welcoming. No need to contact before arrival. The large car park is seldom at capacity. The Inn also offers 6 rooms for rent and a self contained cottage for rent. We stayed on a Friday night and enjoyed a filling cooked breakfast on the Saturday (served between 7.30 am and 11.30am) incl hot and cold drinks for a mere £4. Unbelievable value for money. Toilets are at the entrance so no need to enter the pub all the time. Goes without saying that the pub would welcome your custom in exchange for the excellent facilities. There’s a petrol station at the end of the road and a co op nearby.
