Friday night stopover, no other cars besides a single dog walkers in the morning. Very good phone signal it's a long straight road mostly used by locals, so they do come past at speed fascinating mine works too explore as well

madblondebint05/12/2025We stayed on a Thursday night. Nice place, with great views & the mine was very interesting to visit. The road is extremely busy & Cars come past ridiculously fast (Cars on the other side of the road were making the van rock!) About 5 cars came past on their horns in the night, not what I expect for Northern hospitality. A real shame as it would be a good spot.

mebandthelt14/07/2025Views are amazing, and the mine is really interesting to walk around but spot it let down with cars flying past all hours at 40-60mph so vans constantly rocking.

Lovely view of the mine. Car do drive past fast throughout the night. One did beep around 5am as they went past. People pulling in and out of the layby throughout the night. Good for in a pinch
hanlette08/08/2024nuit assez agitée, car les véhicules roulent vite et font tanguer le véhicule. il y avait du papier toilettes et des déchets qui trainaient. Je ne peux pas mettre une meilleure note. mais la visite du site est superbe.

Stayed 3/2/24 after a day in bakewell, lovely views, lay by is uneven but we managed ok. Few passing cars but didn’t notice anything gone 10pm. Definitely would use again if in the area.

This is the car park for magpie mine. so it is busy during the day with people coming and going. It is also on a main 60 road so people come through fast. I slept well however. Cars stopped around 11pm and started again around 8.30am (with the odd ones between) Fairly level. Lovely view of the mine and short walk. EE signal there but patchy. would stay again.
loobular25/06/2023Great location, quiet road at night. The mine is about 200m walk and very interesting to look around. There is a field on the other side of the wall where my kids played happily and the cows (when they came into it later) were very friendly

Weekday. This layby is on a busy B road which was in constant use from 04am to midnight. its a national speed limit road so you'll get rocked by every passing vehicle.
