We stayed here last night, and it was empty apart from us. I'd read the reviews about the warden but had forgotten. We were quite surprised to hear a knock on our van door at around 9:15pm and didnt fancy opening up. We shouted hello twice but no reply, really not a nice experience. The warden should just be able to check a system to see who's paid like every other modern car par.

  • 1/5

I stay here quite often. Usually there's a nice chatty man who comes around to check who has paid to stay, he comes around just after 9pm . Tonight I was rudely woken up by an asian man who tooted on his horn then was knocking on my window at 1 am, yes you read that right 1 am asking to see how I paid. I told him that I paid via the QR code next to the ticket machine.

  • 1/5

Just had a knock asking for my parking ticket, which is displayed on my windscreen. It's 1am in the morning!! I will never stay here again. Totally ridiculous to knock my van at this time in the morning. 1am!!!

  • 1/5

i am currently parked overnight at Hawkhope/kielder car park and have just had a high vis employee shining a torch into my van then knocking on my windows asking how much i have paid for parking? It is 9:10pm, my 4 year old boy was asleep and my dog has just went nuts at an apparent threat this is actually appaling in my opinion. Wont be back, told him where to go, ticket in window as instructed.

  • 3/5

Nice Park up @ £15 overnight stay, However you get a scruffy angry warden come round every night who's on a power trip as he thinks he's some sort of law enforcer, he like to tell you where and how you should park, and then threatens to be knocking on your van door to make sure you renew your ticket at 5am

  • 5/5

Beautiful park up, very quiet. The public toilets appear to be open all night. The Rangers came round to check parking tickets and were really lovely and friendly. The surrounding forests are also full of amazing hikes.

  • 5/5

Fantastic spot unless you’re looking for a night out in a big city. Peaceful, toilets open all day and night, bins. Easy access to walking and cycling paths for all levels. Warden does come round a few times each evening but he didn’t knock on my van - I did put the registration number in when paying which seems to satisfy him. Cheaper to pay over the dam at the Tower visitor centre.

  • 5/5

Great little find. Charge is £17.49 for the night, warden comes round and checks, he is about all night, so feels very safe! Gorgeous walks and lots to do around. Breakfast with an Osprey too! Lovely spot, clean toilets as well. really good!

  • 5/5

Quiet carpark with good walk- ideal to see nest 7 with ospreys. Paid online at Northumbria Water website- machine only for day parking before 9pm and after 9am which you also need in addition to £15 overnight. Can also pay at Tower Knowe visitor centre. Can recommend.

  • 5/5

  • 5/5

Great location and very quiet. Fabulous view of reservoir and good walks. Clean toilets available. Felt very safe - patrolled regularly. £15 for overnight. Quiet on a windy Bank Holiday Monday - just our van.

  • 5/5

Very beautiful spot overlooking the water and it is very peaceful, arrived at 5pm and paid till 1pm next day and was £15. Toilets there also which I think are open all night! Definitely worth a stop especially if the weather is nice

  • 5/5

Amazing place for the night. Beautiful secluded parking with amazing views . A really friendly bloke turned up at 9 to ask if I had paid my £10 online payment that means you can park in most of the car parks in the area. all the moaning about how hard it is to pay.. rubbish. QR code on the car park.. And the amenities are closed..?? Get a grip. You don’t come to places like this for AMENITIES..!!

  • 3/5

The logistics are a hassle. We came in December. Everything around the lake was shut - the visitor centres, cafes, pub, garage. So you can’t pay for your ticket in person. The machines we found advertised overnight parking, but wouldn’t let you book it. You can only book online, and there’s almost no reception anywhere around the lake. £15 for the night plus £5 for the days either side.

  • 2/5

£17.25 for the night, £5 if you come before 9pm, £10 for the night and a £2.25 service charge. Also a midge hotspot. Good spot but not worth the price

  • 5/5

Such a quiet place to stay and so dark, it’s fantastic. £15 for the day and night, a lovely chap comes to check your ticket about 20:30 ish. Great place to walk with or without dogs. Very popular with cyclists too. We had two very peaceful nights walking, eating and sleeping. Will definitely be back for sure. Toilet facilities are also available, not sure if locked over night but definitely available during the day

  • 5/5

Bought an overnight ticket from the shop at Tower Knowe for £15. You can park in either two car parks. You have to display this ticket in window so we couldn’t put our blinds up but being October, no problem. Use app to avoid this. Very peaceful.

  • 5/5

Great spot, overlooking the lake. Had the very friendly whistling parking guy over at 8:30pm to check we had paid, which we had. Only van here.

  • 4/5

Certainly nothing special but well worth the money to have some facilities and a woodland walk for the dog.

  • 5/5

£15 Overnight stay, warden came around 8.30pm to check tickets but the guy was lovely, really peaceful, lovely view of the dam, midges weren't too bad but it's the end of summer and our bug zapper got the few that did come in to the camper, toilets are lovely and clean. we'll definitely use this again.

  • 3/5

Good stop off if you’re in Winter or Spring. Don’t bother in May onwards, midgies will swarm you.

  • 5/5

Overnight parking allowed but machine not offering overnight £12 payment after 9pm so friendly warden allowed us to stay the night for the £5 ticket we had until 9pm. Great toilet block and nice views across the lake but the midges have just arrived so be warned! Slightly sloping parking and wardens warn you of using the kerbs to level up due to loosening kerb stones.

  • 5/5

Lovely spot overlooking the reservoir. I paid by card at the Castle, which was £12. I arrived near midnight and the ranger was waiting for me as he could see on the system that somebody had booked. I picked a slopey part of the car park near the ferry port, in the morning I noticed that the spaces at the front middle are much flatter. The toilets were immaculate. Good phone signal on 3.

  • 4/5

overnight parking now possible, booked online via waterside parks website. £10 overnight, £5 all day. A few flat areas, bins provided but toilets currently shut for maintenance.

  • 1/5

Overnight parking not allowed anymore - moved on within 20 minutes.

  • 2/5

Lovely big car park, great views no height restrictions but we tried to stay last night and we were moved on by the warden. There are temp signs up now saying no overnight parking.

  • 3/5

overnight parking temporarily suspended. independent kayaking or paddle boarding not allowed.

  • 1/5

Overnachten tijdelijk niet toegestaan. Tot wanneer wordt niet genoemd.

  • 4/5

Absolutely idyllic spot, lovely that they leave the facilities open and offer £10 for overnight parking. We paid the £10 then the wind died down and we had to leave because of the Midges so maybe a better spot for later in the year!

  • 5/5

Nice spot with toilets open all night and great place for walks. Lots of midges however.

  • 3/5

Lovely spot. Midges unbearable from around 18.30 (end of june). Didnt stay even though paid as too warm not to have windows open and midges get through mesh £10 for overnight stay (2 All day tickets x £5) Coin only. would be great if not for midges.

  • 3/5

Only addition to other comments is that the site is infested with midges (in mid June) so be prepared. They’re ravenous critters.

  • 5/5

Great overnight car park. £10 pay online or at ticket machine(cash only) warden comes around 9pm. He also stays on the dam face road from 11pm till 6am for security ( monitors who’s driving in etc eliminate boy racers etc) great walks and view of the reservoir. Not the levelest of sites but us ramps.

  • 5/5

Paid online £10 for the night, signals not great, warden came round at about 9pm but was really understanding that I couldn’t load the email to confirm my ticket! There is a slope, I had gone up the curb to level it but the warden asked me to not do that again so be aware to bring something to level out with. Loads of space and toilets were open all night. Few coming and going during the night but no other noise.

  • 5/5

£10 a night, bought with 2x£5 tickets from the machine. Parking spaces are about 6m length, but there’s enough space for overhangs on larger Motorhomes on the grass verges. Pitches do slope. Nice place to stay, good value. Toilets open during the day - very clean.

  • 5/5

Perfect spot for walks and overnight stay. Level’ish but definitely level enough !. Room for at least 20 large vans. Beautiful views over the reservoir with easy access across the top of the damn. The friendly warden checked our ticket and said he patrolled the area until about 5am which is a security bonus ! The loos which were clean were still open at 10pm. Full 4g signal on O2

  • 5/5

Had a good night here. The parking attendant did visit so make sure you pay. The machine only lets you put £5 max in so you need to buy two tickets. or you can pay online. Perfect location to explore Kielder. Nice and flat, quiet apart from the owls. loos closed at night which is annoying but apart from that great!

  • 4/5

10£ for 24 hours in a really nice setting. loads of walking and toilet was fine. Vehicles moving about at 11pm was the only gripe, late arrivals I assumed probably trying to avoid paying but the friendly warden checks vans for tickets.

  • 5/5

Great find in our LWB sprinter conversion. Flatish gravel carpark. Easy access to the forest trails. Disabled toilet was open and there was recycling and refuse bins. £10 paid at the machine if in use. We paid on the Kielder water website Friendly ranger came over as we arrived and advised us to move. We'd managed to choose a spot right next to where he'd be coming and going all night.

  • 4/5

Very peaceful location with lots or room. The male toilets were locked, however the disabled toilet was open.

  • 5/5

Stayed here 14/11/21 after reading reviews on here we stopped off at keilder waterside and purchased a ticket from the 24 hour shop (went to tower knowe visitors centre first but it’s shut until March) MAKE SURE YOU BUY A TICKET!! the warden will come and check :) Nice & quiet flattish car park, a few others also using the car park but well spaced out…toilets were open for use. Stunning views!!

  • 4/5

We stayed here 11/11/2021. Beautiful spot and very quiet. Paid online but there wasn’t a signal so had to walk down the lake path for 20 mins until we found a signal. The warden came round about 8.30pm to check we’d payed and said that we could of paid at the ticket machine, buying 2 x £5 pay and display tickets, but we didn’t have enough cash, so take cash! Warden very nice, however he did say people were abusing the overnight facility, by not paying and leaving human waste, grrrrrr and that the water authority were reviewing whether to continue allowing people to overnight there.

  • 5/5

Came here after reading the reviews and it wasn't very clear whether you could stay or not. there are a few signs that state no overnight or wild camping. we went to hawkhope car park, which is round the back if you follow the road and there is a sign to pay for overnight parking but you can do it online. it doesn't take your money at the machine.

  • 4/5

Lovely spot with great views. Paid £10. There was a few others there but it was very peaceful. Warden called round about 9pm to check we had a ticket. Toilets were open and were decent too. All parking spaces were quite sloped, could’ve done with some levelling blocks. Would definitely stay again though.

  • 4/5

Brilliant place for overnight stay. £10 to park, ticket bought at the visitors centre. The warden did come round to check. The toilets were open but there were signs to say they were only open until October. The view of the dam and Kielder was stunning even in the rain! I wish more places would do this. Beware of midgies and mosquitoes-there’s loads of them.

  • 5/5

£10 to stay for the night and a warden comes and checks your ticket at around 9pm. Really lovely car park with great views of the water and ideal for walks around Keilder. Toilets available all night which were clean, and bins too. October 2021

  • 4/5

What a fantastic place, stunning views and walks, toilets open all day and night and really clean and smell fresh as well, well done NW.this place is a gem and people must abide by the rules and pay for your stay as it will be stopped.such a small price for a brilliant location.well done NW.

  • 5/5

Lovely quiet spot with fab views over Kielder Water. I would recommend levelling chicks though as all parking spaces are slightly sloping. This is a Dark skies area too, but cloudy when we stayed unfortunately.

  • 5/5

Nice spot for an overnight, you have to pay£10 at tower knowe visitors centre which is further along the resevior. very quiet spot, watch for the midges tho...lots to do and see round kielder..

  • 3/5

Nice place. There are no signs about paying for overnight but it’s £10 paid at the visitor centre. A warden checks every night so don’t try to get away with it!

  • 5/5

We stayed here last night, Northumbrian water have have only just opened it up for over night stays, there were 4 other vans and a very friendly Ranger came round to check tickets had been paid for overnight also drives around during the night checking everything is in order, great views, very peaceful. Cars leave around 6pm, plenty of space. Public toilets open all night and big bins located on site too.
