(IV27 4QA) Durness - 60 Smoo

Good stopover for Smoo Cave. Food on site and burger van further up the road. Level park up with plenty of space. Tesco's delivery point for locals. Quite exposed on windy nights. Only gave 3 stars because both stopover and laundry are overpriced.

Stayed 14-Jan for 1 night. I chose this space hoping it would be less exposed than the ones directly on the coast but unfortunately not. It’s fairly open & offers no escape from high winds. Laundry is cash only, it does accept coins & notes but doesn’t give change (prices in description are correct). Someone was maintaining it whilst I was there so hopefully issue in previous review is fixed.

We've used this laundry before several times and its proved invaluable to planning our journey. Today, only the small machine is working. The panel allows you to pay you £10 in coins for the large machine, but fails to return them as the machine do not work. The small machine works, generally at £5. Today the machine has decided that it will take £6 before it will work. So far -£11. Unacceptable

está bien para lavar la ropa, aunque la máquina solo acepta efectivo (billetes y monedas). La secadora tarda bastante mas que en otras secadoras de esta misma marca. El estacionamiento se puede pagar con tarjeta, 15£ 16 horas, un poco caro teniendo en cuenta que no tiene para vaciar o cargar aguas

Stayed here 17/9/24. Paid £15 as we arrived at 3.30pm & the owner initialled our ticket to allow us to stay til 10am. Flat ground with lovely views. We had a really peaceful night here and did our washing. £5 for 8kg plus £3 for 15 mins in the dryer. Toilets at the cave car park and up the road at the Spar opposite the filling station. Walked 30 minutes to Balnakeil beach, which is fantastic.

Update: Hier kann man gut die Wäsche waschen und trocknen. Die Preise sind nicht mehr die gleichen wie vieles andere ja auch. Hinweis Karten Zahlung war nicht möglich.

Good location for visiting Smoo caves & nearby beautiful beaches. Quite expensive if you stay beyond 10am in addition to overnight. Great to have washing machine facilities. Filled with water for an additional £5. Very friendly owner.

Wir haben hier für eine Nacht gestanden und am nächsten Morgen die Smoo Cave besucht. Die Nacht war sehr ruhig. Toiletten sind am Parkplatz am direkten Eingang zur Smoo Cave und sind 24h geöffnet. Man kann am Parkautomat auch mit Karte zahlen, allerdings stand auf einem Kästchen, dass die Übernachtungsgebühr bar gezahlt werden soll. Bargeld kann am nahegelegenen Spar-Supermarkt abgehoben werden. Wir hatten einfach 16h am Parkautomat gezahlt und keine Probleme über die Nacht. Ab ca. 9/10 Uhr öffnet der kleine Imbiss und es wird voller auf dem Platz.

Fantastic stop over with water and if you ask Chris the owner he has a cheeky electric point for 1, great sandwiches and coffee Chris the owner can’t do enough for you he’s a great guy. Highly recommended stop over if visiting the caves or the beach.

laundry efficace et utile 5£ la petite machine 3£ les 15 minutes de sèche linge le tout en liquide uniquement, mais le "gérant" peut vous dépanner si vous n'avez pas de monnaie Le parking est un lieu où l'on peut dormir pour 14 £, avec des toilettes a 150m (celles de la smoo cave). C'est trop cher pour ce que c'est même si le parking est calme et plat.

Card machine still isn’t working for washing so make sure you have change. Car can be paid for by card at the coffee stand. Great little stop for getting some laundry done.

Wir haben hier schnell die Wäsche gewaschen, getrocknet und haben uns die Idyllische Höhle angeschaut, richtig schön!!!

Good place to do washing we managed to get 5 days worth of washing and our bed sheets in the 8kg washer for £5 then explored Smoo Cave while the cycle was on, came back and had a coffee while it was in the dryer. Card payment was unavailable so bring cash!

reiner Parkplatz, an dem man aber übernacht stehen darf, sehr netter Betreiber, bei dem man mit Karte bezahlen kann, 14 Pfund über Nacht, der Automat am Platz nimmt nur Cash, 5 min. zu Fuss zur Smoo Cave, sehr guter Internetempfang an der Stelle, brutal windig, ständiger Betrieb wegen der Wäscherei am Platz bis weit in die Nacht, keine V/E, kein Strom, für die Durchreise ok, mehr aber auch nicht

Perfect spot for visiting Durness & Smoothie Caves. We parked in the evening after parking & using the golf club further down, visited the caves early the next morning. Couldn’t use card payment so left £10 for overnight in the box & paid an extra couple of hours in the morning. Nice level spots & bonus washing machines. Were surprised we were stopped with only one other van overnight, great spot!

Arrêt idéal pour lancer une machine le temps de visiter les grottes. Vous avez également la possibilité de remplir vos cuves d’eau pour 5£. Pas d’inquiétude si vous n’avez pas de monnaie, le monsieur qui tient le stand vous en fera. Il est adorable !

Good spot. We were the only ones there on 19/08/23 overnight. it was extremely windy. We made use of the toasty bar and the washing machines.

Arrivés tôt le matin nous avons pu faire notre machine à laver aux automates. Lavage 45 minute programme 40 degrés 5£. Séchage 3£ les 15 minutes. Le parking est à 2£ le temps de faire les machines et de visiter les caves si ça vous dit. Le monsieur du parking est là pour vous faire la monnaie si besoin. Il est adorable. t.

Haben hier für 14 Pfund 16 Stunden über Nacht gestanden, um zu waschen. Super netter Betreiber! Trockner brauchen 30 Minuten verry hot, sonst ist Wäsche feucht.

we arrived quite early as wanted to see the smoo caves. Paid £14 for 14 hours, which took us to 8.30 the next morning, but when speaking to the owner he very kindly said we could stay til 10 for no extra charge. nice clean and quiet spot. No toilets on site, nearest ones 5min walk. Ate at the smoo caves hotel which is about a 20 min walk, good food at good price

Nice to be able to use the machines but there’s a free car park just down the road.

I really lucky to found one public washing machine on NC500 route. Everything was okay.

pleased to get laundry done but they are milking moneywise, everything comes with Poundsigns and not cheap. better to park up the road and walk to machines

This is a great overnight stay next to the fantastic Smoo cave. Guy who owns the site was at hand to give change. Machine only takes cash and it's £1 an hour. He only charged us £15 for the whole night and upto 11am. Didn't use the washing machine but a great addition if you are a long haul route. Flat a level and he did offer water if we needed it.

Great stopover to do laundry and visit the cave. Prices up a little from first photo, £10 for 18kg, £5 for 8 kg washers, dryer is £3 for 18kg. Notes or coins only, friendly staff on hand with change. Parking cost same as stated below. Food trucks on site too!

Excellent car park. Walked to Smoo caves from here after the washing was done!! 8k Washing machine and tumble dryers working fine. Only the 16k washing machine not working. Took coins but no card.

Laundry machines don't take coins anymore. System leaked some water so I assume it's broken. No one there and the number was not in use anymore. As a carpark still usefull but don't put your hopes on doing laundry.

We stayed here last Wednesday night so we could vist smoo caves the next morning it cost us £14 that we thought was a bargain Great night sleep and a chance to do our washing . we felt very safe as there was another 7 campervans also using the carpark .

Nice level tarmac with great rolling views of the Durness area very peaceful at all times of the day. Public toilets are a 5 min walk down the hill and very clean also the Durness shop and petrol station is a 20 min walk the other way. p.s the washing machine/dryer was only accepting cash at the time as the card reader was faulty. Bring exact change as used a tenner for drying our clothes haha.

Flat level parking lot with laundry facilities. Paid £14 for 16 hours parking overnight. Owner is a really nice guy. Toilets available at Smoo Cave about 2 mins walk away.

Fantastic place, over night stay and a very level area, drinking water, laundry facilities toilets in walking distance (100m). The guy is brilliant, looked at the leak we had as well. Could ask for more! Thank you

Great place to stop for Laundry, Cheese Toasties and a walk around Smoo Cave. This place is a lot more established than it appears on Google Street view.

Awesome horse box toastie takeaway! Parking is £1 per hour, but you can put your laundry on while you kick back with a delicious snack and a drink. Also usb phone chargers available at a small cost. In theory you could stay overnight, but you still need to pay!
