Paid pitch off the main road. Surrounded by nature and next to a waterfall. Lots of nice walks nearby and public toilets opposite. There are no signs saying you can't stay overnight, but we only stayed one night, arriving in the afternoon and leaving early in the morning.

Yes now is pay and display. £5 first 2 hours then £2 an hour thereafter. avoid this place

  • 3/5

  • 1/5

pay and display now definitely the correct one as I've been here before

  • 1/5

I think signs are up charging for parking now. As with the reviewer below, we are certain we got the right place (walked round the whole area).

  • 1/5

Parking signs up stating that you must pay. Certain I’ve got the right spot. Disappointed as it would have been a great spot to spend the night.

  • 4/5

Spot in great location and free of charge. Stayed one night no bother from anyone. Few other camper vans arriving late in the evening. You can hear road noise from the A591 but not awful. Cars start arriving from 0800 in the morning for walks etc. ground isn’t level but not really an issue

  • 5/5

To reiterate, this is still a free to park spot. The review left by somebody a couple of weeks ago is inaccurate. He must’ve stayed at one of the car parks where you have to pay. This one is still free. I was here last night and two weeks ago, there’s never been any charge or any signs saying there is a charge. Great spot, quiet after 10pm ish quite sheltered under trees.

  • 3/5

free parking for around 10 vehicles. very muddy in August but short walk to Rydal caves.

  • 4/5

Brilliant spot. Close to Ambleside and Grasmere. Quiet after dark. Felt very safe here. Would recommend. Only small downside is it was a little muddy.

  • 5/5

Great spot. Under the trees. Near a river which has a waterfall if you walk up alongside the river. Over the road is some toilets and great walking trails. Enough room for 4/5 cars. Good signal. Touch of road noise.

  • 5/5

Great quiet overnight stay. Secluded off the main road so quieter and safer than a lay-by. Large enough for 5/6 campers. No facilities.

  • 5/5

Very good place, close to everything you need and a lot of walk paths around to explore the area. Enjoy!

  • 5/5

Great location! Free parking, close to water and public toilets just over the road. Little road noise but to be expected for the location

  • 4/5

Woodland and waterfall in carpark … sound of running water when the cars stop in the evening . Just a stop over for us on our way back from Isle of Skye.. close to road but ok for free…

  • 5/5

good spot, the road gets quiet at night. nice walk nearby too!

  • 5/5

great little park up off the main road, quiet after dark! few other vans there with us overnight which was nice! lovely walks nearby to walk to from the van including rydal caves and loughrigg.

  • 5/5

Space for few vans. Busy in the day as parking. Great views, next to a public toilet and the start of the circular footpath between the two lakes. This spot is very nice, stayed two nights.

  • 5/5

great spot just off the road we managed to fit our long wheel base fine. toilets over the road and great walks all round ☺️

  • 2/5

The first picture on this post is misleading .. the 2nd picture should be the only pic as this over night stay is in the middle of a forest right next to a main road. The public toilet is an old brick box with no working lights and the lake is lovely but it’s a walk away. There were 4 other people staying so we had to squeeze in. Wouldn’t recommend if you want to be alone.

  • 4/5

Very nice spot, when we got to this park up there was 3 camper but loads of room for use to fit in as we are in a extra long wheelbase van and find it hard sometimes but no issues. The only 2 things that is a issue that it was uneven and the road noise at time was very loud.

  • 5/5

Great spot, a bit hard to find. It is in between the two car parks. just looks like a driveway. there is a free toilet in the car park on the opposite side of the road. It is popular for cars during the day for walkers so it was busy when we arrived but the cars left by evening. There were two campervans for the night, another pulled in later, could fit 1 or 2 more depending on how people park.

  • 4/5

The entrance was rather narrow and overgrown but very spacious once inside. There were a few cars when we arrived, but they eventually left, and we were on our own until another camper joined us in the late evening. The ground is fairly uneven. There is a great walk off the track of the car park, but parts of the walk were overgrown, which made it difficult at points.

  • 5/5

Great spot tucked away off main road, not 100% flat but can find a spot, yes you can hear the cars passing but didn’t bother us, right next to a river and little waterfall, over the road is towards Rydal cave etc, full 4G signal, no signs about parking/overnight parking and we weren’t bothered by anyone, parked in the evening and left the next day late, toilets in car park opposite

  • 5/5

Aucuns panneaux autour.

  • 1/5

Was a very busy spot, lots of other vans there and very noisy! Was stared at when we arrived… with people playing loud music outside their van until late at night. Road is loud as well. The ground was uneven so hard to get a level spot and super muddy. Rubbish had been left behind. Seems like this spot has been ruined now! Didn’t feel safe at all so we left.

  • 5/5

The only free parking on this stretch of road! Only stayed during the day and it’s a busy road (Tuesday, early july). Uneven terrain.. not too bad but you’ll hardly find a good flat spot.

  • 5/5

we parked here 2 nights in a row, such a central location & good spot.. just off a busy road however passed 10am it gets quiet. across the road is a toilet, bins & footpaths. would certainly visit here again

  • 4/5

Perfect little spot - seems popular too! A few other campers there and a lot of cars came in/out during the day trying to park. Next to public toilets which are open all night. 25 minute walk into Grasmere for pubs. A little road noise is the only downside.

  • 4/5

  • 5/5

Stayed for one night, accompanied by 3 other car campers and two vans. Great access to Rydal Water on the first day then second day took a walk up to Easedale tarn ( if you want to walk to Easdale make sure you have a good few hours and take some swimwear )

  • 2/5

  • 3/5

Was very busy when got here mid afternoon on a Tuesday. 4 other vans and not much maneuver room, was very muddy and tyres of van were skidding with it being uphill slightly too. Felt uncomfortable with the others being around and constantly staring, didn't make us feel welcome. We moved on after a van moved and we could get out. Think we just got unlucky.

  • 5/5

It is surrounded by nature with a short walk to public toilets. Lots of rubbish picked up as much as we could. Would please some rubbish bags

  • 5/5

Great stop, tucked away from the road between two paid car parks, 2 minutes across to a clean toilet block. Just me the first night, two other vans the second, plus cars of walkers.

  • 5/5

Fantastic! Beautiful place for morning walks. Not entirely level and fairly busy with walkers at the weekend. 10 min walk from grasmere and Wordsworth’s house. Short drive to Keswick.

  • 5/5

Great spot in a wooded car park. A bit muddy, skidded a bit. Toilets across the road. Walking distance to the pub! 4G.

  • 4/5

Great spot for a motor home - we have a Ducato maxi & had plenty of room. Two more smaller vans also parked. Stayed one night & noise level was OK occasional sound from road & others parking late nothing that should keep you up. Free toilets across the road are decent enough but will need a torch at night. Great walks also across the road. 30 minute walk into Grasmere. Slight slant and muddy.

  • 4/5

A great little spot hidden just off the main road, really quiet night, you could fit around 4 cars at a push. There is access to the river and a small rocky cave area that people had been pooping in and leaving used baby wipes and not burying their waste, would have given it 5 stars if not for this. it's a little muddy but standard for Feb in the lakes.

  • 5/5

Coachbuilt motorhome fits perfectly , lovely spot

  • 5/5

Lovely little spot, only space for 2-3 vans/cars. Little bit muddy and can be noisy from the road but peaceful at night. No light pollution so stars are so bright! And 4g signal

  • 1/5

incredible spot. toilet block across the road. rydal cave a short walk. great phone signal on EE. stayed one night. Edit: do not use as now been put on pay and display! such a con in the lakes as it was a great overnight spot.

  • 5/5

Lovely spot surrounded by woodland, toilets directly opposite and perfect location to walk to Grasmere/caves/waterfalls. It is on a main road but reasonably quiet overnight and very muddy after rain. Stayed 1 night, no signs to say you can’t park or stay overnight.

  • 5/5

Good spot, concealed from the main road but a bit of traffic overnight. Good to have the toilets across the road - toilets were open all night for the night that we stayed.

  • 5/5

Stayed here for one night. Quiet spot just off the main road. Secluded and hidden by the trees. no signs stating no overnight parking Nice scenery across the road and walks near by
