Stayed last night (Sunday), able to park campervan here. We didn’t see signs saying no overnight. Quiet street, mountain with castle on top just behind us, and lake view in front. Didn’t see any facilities. There is a lawn bowls club here, but it was closed. As others mentioned there is a low bridge (2.6m), but just take next street (from Glasgow direction) under 3.6m bridge.

  • 4/5

  • 5/5

Bel emplacement et surtout tranquille. Je recommande pour y passer une nuit

  • 4/5

Be careful the sat nav directs you under a low railway bridge. Motorhomes cannot get under. Lovely car park near castle and park

  • 4/5

Im März mit 4 anderen Campervans hier übernachtet. Alles gut.

  • 2/5

  • 4/5

for a place in the town great, nice lake nearby, no people around at night, we were alone on the place

  • 5/5

We woke up in golden sunlight over the river after a quiet night.

  • 3/5

  • 3/5

a nice spot ruined by an influx of noisy people, caravan of about 5 children blasting music, bunch of people sitting in cars just staring at you, not a safe place to be, despite the nice surroundings. would be nice on the off season

  • 4/5

Schöner Platz fast direkt am Wasser. Nachts ein wenig unruhig (Treffpunkt von Jugendlichen?).

  • 5/5

  • 1/5

3 places if you want a bit of space, 6 spaces if you rammed in next to each other. Dirty little place lots of rubbish and local youths drug paraphernalia about.

  • 4/5

Nice spot near The Clyde. 10-15 minutes walk to supermarkets, Wetherspoons etc. We did experience some high jinx from some youngsters banging on the van at around 10pm but only lasted a few seconds, then a really peaceful nights sleep until dog walkers started to arrive around 6.30am. Would use again if in the area.

  • 4/5

Great parking spot for just outside of Glasgow. Was quiet at night and relatively flat. Dumbarton castle is interesting perched high above the parking and there’s a small loop walk along the foreshore and back through housing estate which can be done.

  • 5/5

Lovely spot. Flat hardstanding. Pretty location below the castle. Quiet at night, bit of morning traffic but not very early. Close to shops. No climbing; the rock faces are barriered off and there are signs warning of instability. No height restriction on our approach, which was along the road with the football club on it. There are bins, data and phone signal, but no other campervan facilities.

  • 5/5

Very peaceful night with a path round the loch so we could walk the dog. We walked into town for some food which took us 20 mins. Highly recommend this stop & would defiantly return. Suitable parking spaces for larger motor homes

  • 3/5

Do not go down castlegreen road. No warning of height restriction. 2.6 mts !

  • 5/5

Beautiful spot right by the water. We had a peaceful night - highly recommended!

  • 5/5

Flat parking area with space for 6 vehicles. Some cars hanging out in evening but experienced no issues.

  • 4/5

Had a quiet and peaceful night there. Two other campers and a car. No view from the motorhome as such but nice to wake up with something nice just around the corner.

  • 4/5

A nice little spot, used it for day parking and caught the train into Glasgow from East Dumbarton station.

  • 3/5

Be wary if you follow your sat nav it may take you under a 2.6m bridge. We are 2.5 and a local guided us through but I would not dare to try it alone. Reasonable spot but only 2 vans will get view of the Clyde.

  • 4/5

Schöner kurzer Stop für eine Pause

  • 5/5

Really nice and calm atmosphere at the foot of the castle and the big rock, close to the lake. Really easily accessible at the end of a quiet road. You feel like in total nature with signing birds and you'll be parked under trees. Definitely a spot to respect the locals and the place itself. No awnings, chairs or rubbish to keep this place this free overnight haven.

  • 4/5

  • 3/5

Noisy bowling club, not a very fancy place, will be allright if you need a free place for the night. 3 others had already parked. We went on to another place.

  • 3/5

  • 5/5

excellent quiet spot, spent 3 nights here, as train into Glasgow was frequent and £5.50 return used as abase for exploring. morrisons toilet is 7 min walk and open until 10pm. also Macdonald's and other places nearby. recommend Bangin pizza excellent fries! beautiful walk alone the river. street lighting is a bit harsh, but we felt safe. busy with cars/dog walkers. But overall fantastic spot.

  • 5/5

Also nachmachen, dann bleibt der Ort hoffentlich.

  • 4/5

  • 5/5

Great park up. Good place to walk the dog. stayed over night, few other vans here. We collected a lot of rubbish, around the bin, fast food wrappers and such. Probably local eat and trash dump but didn't want vanners being blamed. lots of bins around to safely leave your own rubbish too. Please take care of this site, seems well loved by locals.

  • 4/5

Perfect little stop over with plenty bins and benches. Highly recommend the wee wander up to Banging Pizza also! Delicious and very friendly staff . Nearest toilets if required in Morrisons ( also 10 min walk)

  • 4/5

Very good site no facility apart from a bin. Fantastic views of the castle and the river Clyde, close to supermarket and main road into national park. Plenty of dog walkers in the morning but they were all good, it seams rather normal to be camping there.

  • 5/5

I live here just around the corner. but I still bring my MOHO for a night out. Just down the road is an amazing Italian pizza place called Banging Pizza. Shut Monday & Tuesday but I cannot highly recommend them enough. Morrisons have fuel, café and if you look closely near the fuel garage exit there’s a water tap.

  • 5/5

Two niches for parking with a total space for 5-6 vans. Try not to stay too long in the morning as it's the main car park for the castle visitors. Dumbarton offers facilities for laundry (colourful grafities on the outside, really friendly service), splendid coffee and ginger bred (just across the road from the launderette) and a big shopping area close by if you need to get food etc.

  • 4/5

The spot felt safe and quiet for our first night in the van. It was a Saturday but didn't experience noise from the pub/club. Nice evening walk along the river and lots of local amenities close by. Good wildlife (Rabbits and a Fox) to spot at night.

  • 5/5

Lovely spot 10 min walk to town plenty of space very quiet at night fairly level

  • 5/5

Great stopover! Our first ever non-site stopover and a huge success. No traffic noise midnight to 8am but not much at any time because it is a dead end. Great spot alongside the Clyde estuary with a nice walk and views.

  • 5/5

Surprisingly good stopover location on our return south. Morrison’s and ASDA 10 mins walk away.

  • 4/5

Good spot, nice and tidy and excellent views, as mentioned before the bowling club get busy on a weekend so pretty loud music until around midnight, but no mither of anybody, i would return if in the area.

  • 5/5

Nice place to park plenty of room for 7.5 mtr motorhome bowling club was busy ( saturday night ) but reasonably quiet.....the whole area was clean & tidy no problems encountered & a quiet nights sleep..1 other van here too... some nice walks close by along the adjacent path good if you have a dog

  • 3/5

One night here to break the journey. Quiet. 4 other vans. Fun fairy garden and views. Couldn't get in to the castle as no tickets available.

  • 5/5

Great stop locals all very friendly, nice fairy garden along the River path. Explore round the back of the castle rock to find some bouldering spots. Morrison’s just a short walk up the road and turn Left.

  • 5/5

Very much as described. We arrived very late. 1 other van present. Beautiful views over the Clyde and a fairy garden to explore when we woke up the next morning. Nice a quiet with just an early morning call courtesy of some seagulls.

  • 5/5

Perfect for a night stop over on our way upto the highlands- quiet- peaceful- nice castle and sleep below the cliff- a few other neighbours which is nice

  • 4/5

Parking in the shadows of the castle - some lovely views onto the shore. Was a boules match in the club when we were there so very busy. Nearby to shops, takeaways and a nice coastal walk. Noone bothered us all evening.

  • 4/5

Arrived late at night, there were a handful of other campers but plenty of space. A quiet sleep until around 7am. Remote but still has a solid amount of foot flow/cars

  • 5/5

Great stop in the shadow of Dumbarton castle. So peaceful and lovely walks. Well kept area, lovely and clean. Highly recommend.

  • 5/5

Really nice, quiet spot next to the Clyde. large parking bays available. we spent a lovely evening here with no problems

  • 5/5

Posto stupendo, overnight free. no service.

  • 3/5

Good for a stopover on the way North/South.

  • 5/5

Lovely spot, camped two nights with no problem, gorgeous views

  • 4/5

  • 3/5

Beautiful rock on the front of the car. quiet

  • 5/5

Once all the cars had gone, it was a really peaceful night right next to the castle. Great spot to stop for the night xxx

  • 5/5

Great first night here on our way to the NC500. Easy to park up, on nice level parking spaces. Great for walks. Only one other camper when we stayed here. Arrived in the dark so waking up to see the castle was amazing.

  • 4/5

Quiet night but the Castle was surprisingly uninspiring.

  • 4/5

Nice and quiet, level parking spaces. One other van here and a few lorries. Starts to get a little road noise come 7 am, with dog walkers.

  • 4/5

Only one other van when we stayed 5-6 Sept 20. Once the players from the local bowling club had gone home it was extremely quiet. Had a good night's sleep and didn't hear a sound all night.

  • 5/5

Ok for a park up. Couple of campers when i got there late night. Shaded by trees and a huge rock. nice walk by the water. morning there was a lot of traffic for what looked like a dead end road. a building site nearby with new homes being erected.

  • 5/5

Nice and quiet, no trouble. We were the only van camping. Only a 5 minute drive to lots of shops, supermarkets and fast food.

  • 5/5

A great view over the river and a nice quiet place until low tide when the birds start to feed (but that wasn't too bad). a short walk up the road to local shops and the stags head is a good pint!

  • 4/5

Ok pour une nuit. Parking paisible. Beaucoup de promeneurs dans la soirée. Vue sur la baie. Nuit calme et sans bruit.

  • 3/5

We stayed here for one night on a Thursday. It was very busy until 22.00ish. Caused by people jogging, walking their dogs, having a banter and smoking weed. It got quiet at night time and it was pleasant to walk around the park, water and castle in the morning. Fine when the parking is empty but it was too busy when we got there..

  • 5/5

Nice spot to stay a lot of dog walkers but caused no bother to us currently got workers working on the castle they turned up in the morning

  • 5/5

Nice spot, spent night on Friday and it was quiet and secured. Nice walk along the river. No services. Dog walkers in the morning and evening.

  • 4/5

  • 4/5

Perfect place for a pit stop.no amenities.is busy early in the morning with dog walkers ,people visiting the castle .

  • 3/5

  • 5/5

Very busy with dog walkers but lots of space and a nice place to sleep

  • 4/5

  • 4/5

Nice views. Stick to the main road until you see the signpost for the castle... following the gps might guide you to a shortcut with restricted height (2,60 m)!!

  • 4/5

    Containers poubelles
