Just a minute further up the road from the other Underbarrow road spot, but far better in my opinion. More solid/flat surface and well sheltered from wind by a small crag. Free with a donation box. Room for 12 vehicles. Quiet and secluded. Does get busy in the mornings with dog walkers parking (no problems). Stayed 2 nights. Walked the dog. Lovely views in the day, stargazing at night.

Lovely parking area. Was busy during the day with dog walkers & walkers. Couple vans when we arrived. About 4 by time we closed up our van. Only a 4 star as the amount of dog poo bags lay around is ridiculous. Campers get called alsorts and bad names when it’s not us leaving these lay around. Take it home people!! Or drop into a near bin. It’s not that hard

  • 5/5

Great location walks with stunning panoramic views! At busier times you might struggle to find a space but it’s mainly used by walkers so you should be ok later on.

  • 5/5

Great place to stop for the night. almost flat in places, but only a slight slope elsewhere. quiet at night, some dog walkers evening and morning. but not disturbing. Great walk from car park

  • 5/5

Second time staying here, great park up with lovely sunset walk and views over the road

  • 5/5

Great park up, very quiet and sheltered.

  • 5/5

Great spot for the night! With lovely walks around the area. Level parking and very peaceful

  • 5/5

  • 5/5

A lovely little park up location. Very busy with walkers etc in the morning, but extremely friendly and didn't bother us. Lovely walk across the road and only 20 minutes into Kendal. Definitely worth putting money in the honesty box to keep this location.

  • 5/5

  • 5/5

Quiet spot, not too close to the road. Level all around. Had a chat with few locals in the morning while having my breakfast, no hostility whatsoever. Made a donation, encourage everyone to do it - let’s keep the place clean too!

  • 5/5

Great place sheltered by a large rock wall. Very quiet in the morning also with only one dog walker. There’s public toilets in Kendal leisure centre 2 miles away.

  • 5/5

Super spot ! Joli balade autour.

Stopped here on a Wednesday Evening. No others parked up. Quiet spot. Briefly interrupted by an individual changing a tire but done quickly and as quietly as possible. Nice area to wake up to.

  • 4/5

spent 3 nights here. good dog walks, sheep in some fields, others sheep free.

  • 5/5

Quiet night stay, only van here, wasn’t disturbed nice dog walk and views over the hills. Drop some change in the donation box

  • 4/5

Very, very busy during the day, probably one if the busiest car parks ever. Nightime is different, with only 3 vans staying. Great location, flat, decent phone signal. Walkers use this place for sunset walks. So expect it to be full literally until 30 mins after sunset, when it quickly empties. No taps,no bins, honesty box for parking.

  • 4/5

A fairly level spot with amazing walks from the car park (Cunswick Fell, Scout scar across the road). No bins, toilets and ropey phone signal but no issues if that’s ok for you. A really great spot. Quite a lot of cars coming and going from early morning to late night for dog walking but everyone friendly. Also the crag in the car park is a great climb. Stayed 3 nights and paid a small donation.

  • 5/5

Great location, busy with dog walkers till about 10pm and busy early in the morning. Had a great nights sleep with no issues. Phone signal was okay on o2 but not amazing

  • 5/5

Nice and level gets busy with dog walkers but we had no issues

  • 5/5

level area, plenty of space, popped a few quid in the honesty box, ideal place with some great walks and amazing panoramic views, busy with walkers and dog walkers I arrived in the afternoon, went for a good walk, stayed overnight, walked the following morning then headed off

  • 5/5

Fantastic parkup, we stayed the night it was very quiet. If you cross the road and head up the hill there’s some amazing views. It’s a donation carpark, no facilities would definitely recommend.

  • 5/5

Great overnight spot with honesty Box ... noisy in the morning with walkers .... would recommend lovely spot and I like the idea of the honesty box ....if only more would do this...

  • 5/5

lovely place to park, lots of walkers but no problems. definitely try to arrive before sunset to cross the road and walk up the hill to see the sunset, its beautiful!

  • 5/5

Had 1 night stay early September it’s close to center of Kendal. No facilities or tap but lovely walks close by. Space for 20cars or 10-15vans. Busy with sunset walkers or early morning dog walkers very friendly. We were the only van on there from 21:30-7:00 No trouble at all well worth the honesty box donation! Get there b4 dark to enjoy the sunset walk! Take your rubbish with you :)

  • 5/5

Lovely quiet place, nice and flat with plenty of spaces. Stayed here last night and there were 3 other vans there but it was still really quiet. Not great phone signal and no services but the town of Kendal isn’t far away to find toilets etc.

  • 5/5

Great spot, another 3 vans there during my visit my stop over. plenty of space and easy to find something flat.

  • 5/5

Further to my last comment, I went back the next night and the 4g had disappeared. Still a great spot though.

  • 5/5

A great spot for a free (well almost, £3!!!) overnight.arrived at 5pm and lots of people in and out but quiet by 10pm. a few other vans but not bad at all. fairly level and reasonable phone signal, don't park next to the cliff and you should get a solid 4g signal, at least on O2. No services, just a park up.

  • 5/5

Lovely place. Three vans staying last night on the evening of bank holiday Monday

  • 5/5

Lovely hard car park. slightly uneven but fine. didnt hear a thing all night. 4 Van's in on same night. walk just over the road gives amazing views. donation box at gate suggests £3 to park. worth every penny. amazing place

  • 5/5

Great parking spot. No facilities but secluded from road, quiet, very close to kendal to get supplies. Perfect, will definitely use again. Dont forget to drop an offering in the honesty box

  • 5/5

A great little spot until the cast of the fast and furious arrived at about 2100. Left at around 2230 but no bother, just a little noisy. Then another camper came and parked next to me so all was good. I will be coming back though!

  • 5/5

Free big sheltered car park. No facilities. Really quiet. No light pollution so stars are great. Right opposite the car park there is the Scout Scar walk which offers panoramic views with just 10 mins walk on a path. Sunset and Sunrise visible and benches along the walk.

  • 5/5

Nice popular venue, quiet and plenty of spaces . Away from the road, so had a good night's sleep. Definitely coming back here.

  • 2/5

I would not recommend this spot if approaching from the west and have a old/ large campervan! The roads are tiny and very steep and I even had to go into 1st in some places! Spot is level and secluded but very busy with walkers from sunset to sunrise. Had some youths driving around for about an hour after sunset which was a little unsettling (on a Tuesday night!). But slept well eventually.

  • 5/5

Nice night, parked close to the cliff edge so loud rain drops from the trees above. Other than that a nice night. 1 other camper also there

  • 4/5

Small car park for large campers but use the centre space if clear. lovely peaceful night. This car park shields you on a windy night. No services and take your rubbish home.

  • 5/5

  • 4/5

Nice little secluded spot, busy with dog walkers but they come and go without any problems. Free parking with a donations box. Nice walk over the road with some stunning views.

  • 4/5

Great spot. Very popular for dog walkers but no problem. We stayed here for two nights. The only thing which was slightly annoying was people turning up every night (Thursday and Friday night) listening to music for a couple of hours.

  • 5/5

Really good place to stop. Flat and quiet. Easily accessible. The car park is on the right of heading from Kendal town. There is a sign on the entrance saying scout scar car park. It does get busy during the day. Great location to stay if you have dogs or like walking. Really good surrounding lake. Safe for dogs to be off lead.

  • 5/5

Great quiet little spot. Very sheltered as cliffs surround car park. Voluntary contribution for parking. Joined by a motorhome around 10pm (in January) so may be popular in summer months.

  • 3/5

Quiet park up, good for walking the dogs. Voluntary continuation for parking.

  • 5/5

We are here now, was busy earlier with walkers so we waited to get a better spot. It's great here, very quiet and a short 5 minute walk to beautiful scenery. Probably gonna stay 2 nights here. Love it, thanks for adding it.

  • 5/5

Nice place to stay for a night, very calm, 3 min away path with stunning views of lake district.

  • 5/5

Cracking spot for a cheeky night away, fairly level & sheltered from the wind. Busy with walkers from 8am thru till 9.30-10pm but quiet & peaceful thru the night. Stunning walks & sunsets from the top of Scout Scar hill.

  • 4/5

  • 5/5

    Super spot !!

  • 4/5

No problems here with our 8 metre van. A very quiet night with easy access to Scout Scar and it's extensive views of the southern fells and Morecambe Bay. Despite no services it is still worthy of a small donation.

  • 4/5

Great spot, quiet and spacious, no regulations so no one will disturb you,

  • 5/5

Stayed here for one night, really great, secluded spot (one other camper van there too). Made a donation in the box by the entrance.

We stayed here for one night with no problems. It was surrounded by nature, level for our 7m long van and free. Really good spot!
