Disused aerodrome at Davidstow. Park on the western side in sight of the lake in case of model flyers and microlights. Wonderful food at the Rising Sun pub on the way to Alternun (4miles). this place needed more of a write up as its so beautiful in the middle of nature. as an old airfield there is hard standing for over a thousand places. surrounded by sheep and grass with the lake close by. just pull off the road on any hardstand either in the open or in the shade of pine trees. a special place to visit and ket kids and pets run wild.

Stillgelegter Flugplatz in Davidstow.

Parked here last night. We really enjoyed it, we weren’t 100% certain you can stay on here but we done what a lot of others done anyways and didn’t get any bother. Would definitely stay again

one of my favourite spots but be aware it's a huge space, don't just head for the spot this app points you to, spread out and give each other some space. If it's windy park on the road at the back where it's more sheltered (the one that heads towards crowdy reservoir) No bins, no views, decent phone signal

Stopped here on a miserably stormy night - didn't trust the boggy, but more secluded "bunker" areas, so stayed on the old runway area. Was concerned about sticking out like a sore thumb, but was close to a couple of overnighting truckers. Ultimately had a very peaceful night.

Beware! First night I stayed there was peaceful, second night had 'boy racers' intimidating anyone parked up. Moved to Roughtor car park and at midnight had a window smashed with golf ball sized rocks. Punks.

It's an absolutely lovely place, but please take your rubbish with you.

    Beautiful and peaceful

Beware when visiting Davidstowe airfield. I was informed by police that they are actively policing the airfield and will move on or ticket anyone parked or driving off road for trespassing. This includes runways, dispersal areas, bunkers and tracks. Anywhere that is not a designated tarmac road. They are driving around in a little John Dere type off road vehicle. Another beautiful place gone

Lovely place - quiet and peaceful. Sharing the space with sheep, cows and horses. Would highly recommend.

  • 5/5

Absolutely amazing place! So quiet and felt safe. Woke up to horses and sheep all around us and a view of the reservoir! Thank you for sharing.

Großartige ruhige Nacht. Viele Schafe, Kühe und Pferde die rund um das Wohnmobil grasen. Ein wunderschöner "Lost Place"

  • 5/5

Great night there, wonderful views and nice walk.

  • 5/5

Really interesting place, plenty of other vans around, silent at night, sheep and horses by the van in the morning

  • 5/5

Beautiful area with a few other MHs around. So much space, with plenty of hard standing and such beautiful views. Looks like there is some great walking to be had, but one of our dogs was recovering from a broken leg, so we could only go a couple of short strolls. We only stayed one night but will definitely be back, so that we can spend the day walking and then stay over.

Sadly not a good place to use anymore, has been massively over used lately and angry locals have been slashing tyres and scratching up vans, one lady even had her window shot out with an air rifle

  • 5/5

Great place to park. We stayed one night. Massive area. Loads of parking. We arrived late and woke up surrounded by wild ponies & sheep. Would 100% stay again. My favourite place of the weekend away.

  • 5/5

This place is Huge Quiet & lovely. Parked far over to the lake within one of the dirt mounds shielded from the wind a bit.

  • 5/5

Amazing park up. Felt so comfortable here. Endless space. Was lovely to just relax and take it all in. Great for walking the dog too.

  • 5/5

We enjoyed 2 nights here. Interesting from a historic point of view with lovely scenery. Really, really quiet. Biggest parking lot that you are ever likely to park on.

  • 5/5

Great place to stay, very quiet with loads of room. We spent four nights there going off to explore during the day, the views towards Rough Tor and Brown Willy are expansive. The main runway is used by the local flying club. The woods are best place to walk the dog off lead as there are sheep and ponies roaming free on the airfield. A vist to the museum is worth the walk too.

Great spot! flat parking and more space than you can handle. Out of the windows a barren but beautiful landscape with sheep, wild horses great abandoned ww2 buildings, sea of tranquility. There was some militant guys at camp nearby but no disturbance.

  • 5/5

We stayed here for three nights because it was so great! Good location, very quiet (apart the sheep and horses, and the occasional teenagers but they left early) and the scenery is stunning! Highly recommend. The sunrises/ sunsets are amazing!

  • 5/5

An incredible place of history from ww2.. Wide open spaces, a lake, 2 mountains, walks galore, 2 museums and wild ponies.. I've been coming here for 30 years and it never fails me.. please enjoy your stay, respect the place and leave no trace.

  • 5/5

Incredible place! So much space, all hard standing and shelter from bad weather from the trees. Didn’t stay the night in the end as the military seemed to be doing a big exercise there

  • 5/5

Biggest place we have ever stayed. Nearest van about 400 yards away. Had military helicopter flying for entertainment in the afternoon. Top spot.

  • 5/5

Big open space. Quiet and peaceful. Full of stars at night.

  • 5/5

First night away on my own in my new van - pretty excited! It's a quiet spot, no facilities but a nice place for walking. Few other vans around but there's plenty of space. Feels safe for a female solo vanner :)

  • 5/5

Unique place to stay. There were several other vans on site when we stayed but the place is huge and you can always find a place to hide away. Lots of pony’s and sheep wandering about. We saw two police patrols circling in and around the airfield but they never stopped. There is an air museum next to the site but currently shut due to the bug. Shame that the pine woodland is being harvested.

  • 5/5

Thanks to previous feedback I stayed here for a night last week, was fine and plenty of room, I don’t think you can go into the wooded area, just the concrete beside the road up to the woods but that’s plenty of space.

  • 5/5

Absolutely amaing place!! Could not recommend more!! It is so peaceful and literally everyone stays to there own section so you can all enjoy the views. Would definitely go back

  • 5/5

Stayed here my first ever night in the van and absolutely loved it, gorgeous secluded area with lots of campers alike around but more than enough room to have your own space and mounds provide privacy if wanted. Ended up coming back here after parking up at a sketchy carpark and wasn't feeling it but slept like a baby as soon as I parked up and got myself comfy

  • 5/5

Stayed 21 - 23/07/20 on the old building foundations on the south west corner nearest the lake. Far enough away so as not to hear any traffic noise. Very peaceful lots of wildlife, cattle, ponies and sheep roaming loose. Walked up Brown Willy and Rough Tor from here. Had a BBQ no problem. Sheep farmer driving around herding sheep didn’t seem to mind us. Spotted about 6 other vans dotted about overnight. Brilliant spot! Don’t spoil it, take all litter home etc

  • 5/5

Big open space or can get yourself tucked into wooded area, if look for National bicycle track which is a lovely ride toward Cornwall’s two mountains on the moors

I was moved on from the Crowdy Reservoir by a Securitas Mobile patrol who said it was Private Property of South West Water and no overnight parking was permitted. I didn't see any signs to say no overnight parking but the guy was polite and explained with the Dam being so close it was a safety issue. I didn't argue I just packed up and moved onto the airfield. I did telephone South West Water and was told that there bylaws do not permit overnight parking on any of there property so bear this in mind.
