This has to be one the longest lay-bys in the country. It’s in two sections - top of the hill and bottom of the hill. As you first enter off the A591 at the top of the hill there’s great wide open views all around with room for approx. 10 vans. Then down the hill, there’s room for another approx. 6 vans under the tree canopy. There is road noise from the A591, but quiet from 10pm to 7am. One rubbish bin. Three bars of 4G.

Drei Balken 4G.

Lovely view but you’re sleeping so that doesn’t hugely matter. The noise is awful, constant from the main road then at least hourly for people driving right past you! Were in a 7 berth motor home and it still shook us each time, ideal cause its free but wouldnt stay again on future road trips

Arrived late and moved on early. Uninterrupted and felt safe. Unfortunately there was a fair bit of tissue rubbish left around but didn't affect us as we are self contained.

  • 2/5

Quite clearly a very popular dogging spot! I felt unsafe so we moved on. Gave 2 stars because if it wasn’t for that it would be a great park up!

  • 5/5

Good quiet layby. plenty of other vans there. Woke up to amazing views. Morrisons not too far away for supplies and toilets.

  • 5/5

Amazing views and very little main road noise from this secluded layby. Plenty of space for lots of vehicles.

  • 4/5

For a lay-by it was fine. Lots of room. A short walk from the nearby campsite where you can enjoy food and drink at their restaurant. Ok for 1 night.

  • 4/5

Nice little stopover shared with 2 other Motorhomes and a camper beyond the The campsite turn. Obviously a bit of road noise but quiet overnight and one of the best nights sleep we’d had all week! Will definitely use again if heading to the western lakes and heading up on a Friday.

Nice a quiet long lay-by there is a bin, slopes down half way but a good place to park.

  • 5/5

Awesome park up.. not far off the m6 with easy access to the lakes. Slightly sloping in places but slept well without chocks.. slight bit of road noise from nearby road. Morning sunrise was beautiful over the fells

  • 4/5

Nice stop over, occasional cars passing down the lay-by but non were disrespectful. No noise from the main road, lots of trees and bushes separating and acting as a sound barrier. Good night sleep. Some sloping areas, limited level site. Will use again.

I arrived here by causality. Yesterday night I start my trip to Lake District and at 12pm I was really tired so I decided to entry in this lay-out, I saw another camper and I said "OK, this is legal, so let's sleep". Many thanks, very good place and very quiet, when you are tired you don't listen the cars from the road.

  • 5/5

lovely view, plenty of space, spent a few nights here. quiet nights with no problems. joined by a few campers. bonus that i have signal on 3. no waste bins 'take it home' higher level and lower level would definitely come again

  • 3/5

The dogging hotspot of the lakes, some very weird people knocking around. Be vigilant

  • 5/5

Came here on the way up to Scotland as we got tired driving the 8 hours coming from Somerset, got here at night it could have probably parked 1000 cars it was huge!!! Next to the main road but separated by a long green bank (hedges and trees) felt very safe and plenty of room. 4g on my phone too! (O2)

Stayed here for the night the view is amazing as said there is lots of space for parking would highly recommend

  • 5/5

Had a really good nights sleep here. Can absolutely recommend and I was one of 4 other campers in the lay-by on a February night. No traffic to the campsite out of season however there was the odd HGV that drove by in the morning. Far enough away from the main road and only gentle distant noise of passing cars, quite relaxing actually

  • 4/5

quiet at night but lots of passing cars to campsite late afternoon early evening (some racing by!) couple of other vans, parked on upper part of lay-by and good phone signal.

  • 4/5

Stayed here 3 nights. Visited Kendal and Lake Windermere which are close by. Slight traffic noise but slept well. Would stay again. No services, one bin. Not flat in some areas.

  • 4/5

I’d suggest staying in the upper part as the lower section has the traffic coming out from the campsite. Great 4G reception!

  • 4/5

It's just a simply park up, as others state there is some road noise but it's not bad at all even with the windows open, good flat spots. Close to Kendal itself or Staveley/Windermere.

  • 4/5

My second time coming back to this park-up. It used to be on this app before, but was deleted for some strange reason, and then added again. There are no parking restrictions here whatsoever. I’ve spoken to the farmer and the police who drive through here regularly, all they ask is that we leave no trace, which we should all be doing anyway. Great stopover en-route North. Quiet night. Good 4G.

Flat, lots of space and few passing cars. Bit of road noise from A591. 4 other campers for company
