Theres lots of parking spaces along the entire length of this road with a handy bus/ coach turning point for vans at the top if the road by Odin mine. No facilities here but fantastic views and quiet night asits a dead end road. Other vans had BBQ fires and chairs out its clearly popular with wild van campers but room for many vans in marked areas for parking

Parked up on a Tuesday late afternoon and there is no-one here. We are on a slope but it's a dead end. Castleton has pubs, shops and toilets. Great views and walks here

Stopped here a few times with no problems but tonight I had my door handle tried, it was a family with a dog walking around my van then one of them tried the door I got into the front to have a look they walked off up the hill, guessing they are in a camper further up the road somewhere.

Busy with cars on arrival on a Sunday evening, once cars left after sunset only a handful of vans along entire stretch. Good starting point for Mam Tor ridge. Quiet spot through the winter weekdays.

Once you can find a spot it's a great pitch with fantastic views of the various hills around. Its also really convenient for many different walking trails.

We were lucky to find a space on the weekend as the road was packed with vans and motor homes. Being in a pop-top we hear everything, including the people walking back from the pub speaking loudly late at night and all the many vehicles driving right past the van at 30mph. Very patchy sleep but I imagine the place is perfect mid-week in the off-season. The pros are the beautiful views and the location - you can walk to Mam Tor or Winnats Pass from here.

Lovely but as I stated on the other one, council want to make it a clear way etc

  • 5/5

Great place to spend a day or two. plenty of spaces in marked bays along the dead end lane. The road does get busy with traffic and walkers but a safe place to spend a day or two walking the hills.

  • 5/5

lovely place to stay with plenty of options to walk or mountain bike. Had a great sunset over the hills, and a misty morning. Slept well and will come back again. Usual traffic expected in the morning for those early risers.

  • 5/5

Peaceful road with beautiful views. Some occasional traffic passing by

  • 5/5

Stayed 2 nights. Great internet on 3. Nice views, but nicer at the road higher up Mam Tor. This one also has more traffic noise as it's more level, so people drive faster, including some trucks flying by. Busier at the far end of the road, but where we parked we were on our own. 25 minutes walk into town. There are toilets for customers only at the Speedwell Cavern's car park 10 minutes away.

A great spot to tackle Mam Tor from. Loads of spaces for any size camper with a handy turning area at the top. It is busy with people looking for a through road but having to turn around though. The views are very good though. Would happily stay again.

Nice spot. just too busy with passing cars at night. dead end road so people who don't know area continue along this road from Castleton and end up turning to go back. happened all through the evening till about 2 ish. cracking views though.

Emplacement assez sympa mais au moins une vingtaine de vans et cc parfois garés à la queue leu leu.. toutes les places ne sont pas planes. Réseau ok pas de commodites.

Completely rammed when we visited - unless you parked bumper to bumper, there were no spaces. Vocal unhappy locals. Probably nice when quiet but now everyone knows about it it’s ruined. We moved on.

would have been a lovely spot but pulled up to wait for a space and was greated buy a local busy body moaning. moved the van and shrugged it off only to be joined by a group of travellers with caravans who's children we running riot so decided to move on. its probably lovely when it's quiet.

Lovely spot with plenty of room. A few other vans a little further up the road. We only stayed one night but it was quiet and we weren’t disturbed at all

  • 5/5

Loads of other campers but an all round lovely and respectful atmosphere to be in. Gorgeous views, fantastic location for exploring Mam Tor. Great location as a stopping point for exploring other stunning sights and locations around the area. Castleton is a quaint little village that has the loveliest bakery (caters to vegans too), A really lovely place.

  • 5/5

No boy racers, peaceful / cold night sleep… perfect. And less than ten minutes walk to Castleton and several lovely pubs

  • 5/5

Perfect spot on the outskirts of a lovely village. PLEASE let’s not lose this one... don’t treat it like a campsite. Locals do ring fire brigade if you have a fire, and it’s not appropriate to have all your chairs out blocking the pavement. It’s a dead end road but still used a lot and it’s just weird to treat it like a campsite.

  • 4/5

Popular spot. Too many vans staying for me. Good views and quiet once the hikers go home

  • 4/5

Free parking no overnight restrictions. Don’t be put off by the photo - it is just 1 long “pull in” side of road parking, but it’s a really long pull in. It is popular but still plenty of space. There is a slight hill on spots But if you have the pick of the spots you can pick a flag section. Doesn’t affect a good nights sleep. Road is a dead end so nice & quiet all night. Loads of midges though!

  • 5/5

Great spot! Lots of space, which is just ad well as it's very popular! Some issues with boy racer types and loud music early on but soon quietened down. Will definately be back.

  • 5/5

Lovely spot. Stayed here for one night in the middle of a random week so it was very quiet. Had no trouble overnight. Fairly busy with walkers during the day. Would happily stay here again. Surrounded by footpaths but we didn’t have time for a walk on our quick stop over.

  • 5/5

Stayed for our first night in our ‘new to us’ motorhome. Lovely walks and found this spot from the app. You won’t get any better than this.. half a mile of parking on a dead end road, beautiful view. A must!! A couple of friendly locals stopped for a chat, and a couple of motorhomes there too. Going back soon!

I love this spot, I've used it on many occasions, lots of parking and on busier occasions its always like minded van life lovers... Always been in good company! Summer can be busier of course, winter being usually a whole lot quieter but amazing, dramatic views for the braver hearted! ENJOY... Daisy

This was our very first stop and what a view when we woke up. Got there when it was dark, so was a great surprise and we found a cave at the top.

  • 5/5

Bang on. Great view dusk and dawn. Feels safe. Loads of spaces. Fair few other vans here (all fair distance away from each other) so if that’s not your bag then find elsewhere. Perfect for us
