Further down from the lovely community hall are a few places to park. Free parking. Footpath up to either beach, both totally gorgeous and very empty. You can then walk up to the community hall to use the loos, showers (closed with covid), washing up facilities and drinking water tap. The community runs and maintains the whole camping facilities specifically for our benefit, and the community pays for every litre of water us campers use, so please DONATE. Be warned, don’t park if you’re afraid of cows they’re very inquisitive. Absolutely no phone signal (the community hall has payable BT WiFi)

Great spot. Very flat, quiet if you don’t mind the cows. The £10 charge is nightly and year round, cash. Nearest cash point is in Castlebay. There is an honesty box in the community hall which the owners are reluctant to use as people aren’t… well, honest! So please come prepared or be true to your word for the donation.

Beautiful spot. Well worth the visit. 2 beautiful beach’s one each direct but both very different. One with surf and big open beach the other very shelters and calm. Beautiful place. Parking spots perfect and had money invested. Guy came round before we made it to the hall for our donation but very polite, chatting and very informative about the areas and some of its history. Toilets and showers

This is no longer free. The locals have spent thousands in creating dedicated camping areas. They have very serious problems in the past with campers parking on the dunes, releasing waste by the water and walking over the protected Machair. Beware of driving past this point as you will be followed by the "bouncer" like I was in his van as they are over protective now.

£10 donation for overnight parking in (6 locations leading up to and past the Vatersay community hall. £1 for 2 minute shower. Shower and toilet very clean and available 24 hours . PLEASE DO DONATE as all the money goes to the upkeep of the hall and they are also planning a stop beach erosion scheme ...

Beautiful beaches within a few minutes walk. Nice level camping spot for the night. Cows were there but didn’t come close to us. We missed the man but left £10 in the honesty box at the community centre.

We stay at the first packing spot south of the village hall. No facilities. But an amazing spot. 2 minutes to the East beach and 3 to the west beach!!! Some traffic (more than I’d thought considering) on the road. Cows everywhere lol

Nice spot between two beaches. toilets ✅. shower 1£ for 3 mins.

  • 5/5

Decent spot. Adding to other comments, it does now cost £10 but all money goes into community to keep it clean and the public facilities open. Feels like a good thing to spend a tenner on. At Community Hall can wash dishes, empty bins, fill up water bottles, shower (£1) & use toilet. No facility to fill up campervan water. We were in the 3rd spot down from hall and got decent EE 4G signal.

Lovely park up, very flat. Not too many midges. Close to the beach. Man collecting money was really friendly and the services at the little community centre were nice and clean. Absolutely no 02/Tesco signal or 4G. Coop WiFi is non exsistant but there is WiFi at the ferry port. Would be a good idea to download any films you want on the ferry over haha!

We stayed in the £5 site on the hill before you get to the beaches. Peaceful and the chap collecting the money very chatty and polite

Now £10 not £5. Lovely beach on both sides of this road. But note that both are protected by dunes, so there is no direct view of the sea from your spot. But the beaches are spectacular! Shower not included in the £10 fee. Another £1 for 3 minutes. Cafe opens at 11am. A good spot with money going back into the community.

  • 3/5

    Amazing beaches but £10 for a lay-by!

  • 5/5

Just a small car park, like others have said there is the village hall along the road for showers and toilets. The cafe in the village hall opens at 11am for food and drinks, our donation for camping was collected. We'll worth a fiver.

Amazing view! Extraordinary place! 6/5 ;)

  • 4/5

Very quiet spot with room for 2 motorhomes. the roads on Vatersay are a little more scary than Barra but manageable with care. The parking area has no view of the beaches but they are only a short walk away...so 4 stars not 5. The West beach has beautiful sunsets. Both East and West beaches have talcum powder sand.

Great location, quiet and very friendly owner.
