Great park up with an amazing view over the top of the dales. Welcomed by two short eared owls! Night sky was amazing, I’d forgotten how many stars are in the night sky! No traffic all (Friday) night.

An amazing parking spot virtually in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. At a height of 1900 feet / 580 Metres, this is a small tarmac parking space with fantastic views, including Morecombe Bay and Pen Y Ghent to the west. There are no signs of any kind prohibiting overnight parking. The local wildlife seen by us here included short eared owls, kestrels and grouse. There are no nearby lights so it’s a proper dark sky location.

Amazing spot. We were fortunate enough to be visited by four short-eared owls. Fairly level ground and not a single vehicle went by after 8pm. And that’s in August!
Conell02/05/2021Beautiful location practically untouched, absolutely silent at night very little traffic. Amazing views for stars at night No amenities. There is an ongoing project to repair the peat bogs so there are a few bits of equipment nearby the work is on hold during bird nesting season until July so if you come after July it might be busy with work during the day. Consistent 1 bar of 4G
