06/12/2018 Parking on the port by the river, tarmac with a slight slope towards the river. Bins in the harbor area with very small openings at the top to deter seagulls. I found a tap about two thirds of the way down the south pier on the right side, I don't know if it's free but I went down around 9:00 p.m. and filled a water tank from five liters and no one yelled at me! There are toilets in the town near the small roundabout at the old bridge (last two photos) The fish and chips were very good! Donation to the RNLI for parking.

Die Fish and Chips waren sehr gut!

  • 3/5

A good stop over for the night. Relatively sheltered from wind. Seals in the estuary were a nice surprise. Bins available and a water tap on the warf. It was a quiet night.

  • 4/5

Lovely spot . Nice little town/village. Had a very quiet night but about 5.30 traffic stated from the near flyover but wasn’t a problem

  • 5/5

  • 5/5

Probably the best park up ever!!! Quaint fishing harbour with many pretty boats. Very quiet area. Free but please respect request to make donation to Lifeboat charity box which is located on the RLNI boat nearby.

  • 5/5

  • 5/5

Lovely quiet spot on the harbour and sheltered from the wind next to a bridge. donation box on the lifeboat so it goes to a good cause! toilets open in community centre 9am-5pm it was a sunday when I stayed so had to knock on the owners house opposite (red door frame) her husband answered and was very nice, I felt bad for disturbing but he kindly unlocked the shower room for me £5 very clean!

  • 5/5

  • 5/5

The tap is one third down the sea wall on the right. There's toilets and a shower (£5) at the the first junction of Terntham St & Dunrobin Street. The house opposite the main Helmsdale Community Center door where the lady lives who has the shower key. Big shower room, good shower. The Tartan Lounge does take away food. I had a pizza with several extras for £17, & very nice, cooked just for me.

  • 4/5

  • 5/5

A Wonderful stopover... we felt safe and welcome for our second stay. A must see and do is a replic mock up of the life boats supplied and created by local Gary ( a top guy ). A donation would be most welcomed towards the local RNLI as more than worth a contribution towards conveniences on offer within the village.

  • 5/5

Great stop - 8 other campers. Lovely look out over quiet harbour, nice walks around village. Toilets about 200m away in community centre - new and warm. Can show there too for £5.

  • 5/5

Handy stop off by the harbour. A donation to the Wick RNLI for a night's stay.

  • 5/5

Übernachtung am 23.10.: Schöner Parkplatz am Hafen von Helmsdale. Etwas Abschüssig. Kein WC in direkter Nähe, keine Entsorgung.

  • 5/5

Great spot stayed here last night plenty of space bin nearby and toilets in the local community centre are open for public use daily from 9am until 5pm small donations requested

  • 5/5

Couldn't stay here as was already full. But a great spot, lovely views and plenty of space if you arrive early enough.

  • 4/5

Stayed for 1 night on 21st August. lovely quiet site with a few other campers parked up. Saw an Otter and Seal in the water. Toilets are closed! Found the tap to refill water which was helpful. Lovely walk all along the waterfront, past the harbour.

  • 4/5

  • 4/5

Thank you Helmsdale for this spot. You can stay here overnight with the sea in your back.

  • 5/5

Perfect quiet place for the night, right on the harbour front and very peaceful! Saw seals and also water available next to the lamppost for free.

  • 3/5

  • 5/5

Free park up for night. 5/5 ocean view on reasonably level ground sign says, “please consider leaving a donation in life boat collection box if you are staying.” we put £10 in as we are very grateful for this lovely free parking spot. Love scotland ???????

  • 5/5

great little car park right next to harbour. 2 min walk under bridge to a lovely cafe serving homemade food. Asking for donations to park

  • 5/5

Amazing stopover! Toilets in nearby community centre. Keep your eye out for seals as the tide comes in. Follow the road around the harbour to find a tiny beach or follow the road further to join the coastal path for a lovely dog walk.

  • 5/5

Excellent stop over, very busy though with about 15 vans parked up. Good walks, small Spar store and if you go for fish and chips the supper option is very large-one would have done both of us! Don’t forget to donate to RNLI.

  • 4/5

Great stopover again. Donated to the life boat, walk with dogs along seafront to beach. Visited chip shop on the reviews left not great for the price think it is overrated. Will stop again but won’t cost chippy

  • 4/5

Stayed 8-5-2022. Very pleasant . Chip shop was delicious . Donate to lifeboat. Nice walk along sea to a beach with dog . Peaceful

  • 4/5

Great place to stay overnight. Do not forget to donate to the Wick lifeboat!

  • 5/5

Beautiful place, nice view and quiet too.

  • 4/5

nice place to stay for one night. campervans are welcome but please put a donation for RNLI in the box. toilets in community center are ok.

  • 5/5

spent a windy night here in March with spectacular views of the waves crashing over the harbour. Fish and chips were fantastic and very reasonably priced. friendly atmosphere with lots of people saying hello. Put a donation in the box for RNLI. Lovely spot, well worth the stop over.

  • 5/5

Top spot - enjoyed snow storms. Well worth donation.

  • 5/5

2 nights in a row spent here and no problems. toilets in community centre 9am to 5pm. surprised to see 4 other motorhomes here when parking here in November.

  • 5/5

Nice spot with sea and harbour views. Toilets and shower at the Community Centre. Remember to leave a donation in the RNLI box. Great chippy in the village. Stayed 16.10.21

  • 5/5

Spent a lovely quiet night here for a donation to RNLI. There were several other camper vans. Local shop and toilets within walking distance

  • 5/5

Great little stop for one night, showers are in the community centre which shuts at 5. You get access you need to go speak to the owner of the house opposite the entrance (red door frame) and they'll let you in when theres space. Lovely chip shop and amazing waking up in the harbour.

  • 5/5

Great place to park up for the night, lovely little village ,Great fish and chips left a donation in the box on the side of the boat in front of the mural.

  • 5/5

Fantastic stop over for a night we tried here based on excellent reviews and we weren't disappointed. you are parked right under the main Bridge but it was surprisingly quiet. when we stayed we were one of 18 other motorhomes so getting here early could be advisable. parking here is free but it is expected that you make a donation to the RNLI. we put £5 in the box which I thought what was cheap.

  • 5/5

Really nice park up. Some traffic noise from the main road bridge. Lorries use this route throughout the night. Bins, recycling, & water. Fast food unit, but don't know hours. Toilets and showers 5 mins walk, £3 for a shower, no timer, nice and hot, suggested donation for toilet. Donation for park up to RNLI. Many vans. I saw seals twice at high tide from my van.

  • 5/5

Please please remember to put something in the RNLI box to ensure this great spot continues to be available to us. 6 Van's were there with us and we didn't see anyone else go near the box.

  • 5/5

Nice quiet spot, several vans here small donation to RNLI for stopping over

  • 5/5

    Great view. Quiet spot.

  • 5/5

Amazing spot, with toilets 9am-5pm at the community centre and showers there for £3, just a 3 min walk from site. They do invite you to donate to the lifeguards by an honesty box in the life boat if you intend to stay which we did. Went to the local pub, where the bar man is a character!

  • 5/5

An excellent place. A nice view, a nice village with a great fish & chip shop and other shops, toilets and a tap by the harbour. What more could you want.

  • 5/5

Great little spot, bins available and toilets in the town, suggested donation in the RNLI box if staying overnight, there is a tap on the harbour for fill up, not sure if this is allowed but we used it and put an extra few pounds donation in the RNLI box

  • 5/5

Good stopover no problems safe and fairly quiet considering its next to a bridge on the A9 we left a donation in the rnli tin but didn't see any other people donating considering the car park was full of motorhomes , great chippy couldn't eat all of it huge portions

  • 5/5

Grand spot. Fish and chips okay but not drippin and needs an oil change. Chips dry.

  • 5/5

Great location to stay the night if heading north. Great views, a quaint harbour. Counted 14 vans the night we stayed. Delicious sea food takeaway van on harbour Sat and Sun. Alas embarrassed to see fellow motor homer asked not to discharge grey water in front of a locals cottage. Well recommended.

  • 5/5

1 night, very quiet and a tap on the wall as you go on the harbour sea wall partially hidden. Has bins. good pub up the road The bannock burn.

  • 5/5

Excellent stop with plenty of van/motorhome neighbours. Locals very friendly and welcoming. Good amenities in the village.

  • 5/5

Nice, quiet spot near the harbor. Left a donation in the box (on one of the boats in the garden in front of the mural).

  • 5/5

Great parking, busy, food place opposite, lovely village, bins and 4G if needed

  • 5/5

Beautiful place to stop with amazing views. Pretty sheltered from the wind. Water refill point available if needed just up on the left by the flag! Free to use - But a small donation to the RNLI is recommended. Some beautiful like walks also around the area.

  • 5/5

Lovely village, and great parking spot. Slight slope toward the harbour, but no major issue. Public toilets normally available in the village are closed due to Covid, but the community centre is open for toilet use 9-5. Showers available for £3. Parking is free, but a donation requested to the RNLI with the donation box next to the ‘Face The Sea’ mural.

  • 5/5

Great stop, great view, great fish and chips. Need I say any more! Water available along the wall of the Harbour. Remember to make a donation to the RNLI.

  • 4/5

Well done to the town, water was available along the harbour wall. In addition to the toilets at the community centre you can also take a shower for £3. Sadly the chip shop was shut on Mondays so I can’t comment on that but a nice cafe overlooking the river with a visiting seal. Well worth a donation to the RNLI.

  • 5/5

Stayed here overnight with 16 other motorhomes too. Lovely village and clearly a great local community! Best fish n chips ever, sold opposite Spar shop. Fabulous spot so please do not spoil it! Respect the neighbours and enjoy the place (no pun intended) and please make a donation to RNLI.

  • 4/5

Great place for the night but respect the village as close to some homes. Make a donation to the lifeboat box on the harbour. Lovely walks on the river and seafront. Water tap near the harbour. There were 17 vans here but all were very dignified and respected the area. Bins by the bridge.

  • 4/5

Great little village and port good 4G

  • 5/5

Lovely place to stop. Put a donation in the charity box which is on the old life boat. I also bought scallops from the food truck there which were lush! Very peaceful and nice views of the water.

  • 5/5

Lots of other campers, quiet and great views. The toilets in the town are shut at the minute, but there are some available in the community centre 9-5. We arrived at 7ish and there was only one spot available then. Also amazing chippy in the town! Huge portions, we shared a fish supper and it was plenty.

  • 5/5

Well used campervan stop with fresh seafood stall in evening. Quiet and good views.

  • 5/5

5/9/20 Perfect overnighter! Half dozen other motorhomes stayed on the quayside with us. Locals ask for respect and donations to RNLI which is totally reasonable for such a nice otherwise free stopover. Dolphins and seals spotted with binoculars. La Mirage defo serves best haddock and chips!

  • 5/5

We were looking for a sheltered site as it was blowing a gale, parking near to the recycling bin area gives great shelter from the road embankment. Also go and get a fish supper from La Mirage, you get double portions

  • 4/5

Stayed 28th Aug 2020. As the evening progressed every parking bay except one had a motorhome. The other had someone sleeping a car. We were not comfortable with campers using all the available space so we got up very early in the morning and left. Naturally, we made the requested contribution to the RNLI.

  • 5/5

Echo comments from everyone else. Good little park up, locals very tolerant and just ask for an RNLI donation (please respect this ask!). 4 other vans here overnight but loads of spaces. It is on a slope but managable. Local amenities include chippy (would recommend!) a few pubs and a spar.

  • 5/5

I echo other positive reviews with a special nod to the local chippie. £7.50 for a huge portion of delicious fish and golden crispy chips.

  • 4/5

Nice place to spot seals. Sloping tarmac. Water along harbour.

  • 4/5

This is a common spot with several motor homes when I stayed although there is plenty of space. A9 on the bridge above you can be quite noisy in the morning. Good nights sleep with a good view in the morning. Reccomended!

  • 4/5

    Empfehlenswert!

  • 3/5

Bannockburn Inn hotel good food reasonably priced too,we used the water on the harbour to top up and no one came and challenged us

  • 4/5

Stayed there overnight together with 3 other RVs. Lovely view over river with port to the side. Undisturbed despite the A9 roadbridge above and an access road in front. To be level Park as near as possible and parallel to the rubbish bins.

  • 4/5

  • 4/5

Great spot by the harbour. Very quiet. Couple of seals to watch! No facilities, but public toilets in town about 5 mins walk away. Recommend la mirage restaurant. 4 vans in total overnight plus one further up track towards the lobster pots

  • 5/5
