Fantastic spot. There is relatively heavy traffic during the day on the nearby road for people walking in the area but this stopped when it was getting dark. Recommend a walking loop around Hallin Fell or to the top in the morning. If you have a dog be careful because there are a few sheep on the hill in small groups.

very dangerous an deffo not a place to stay overnight, it's very beautiful tho

  • 3/5

Stayed at the lower park up with a view of the lake. Lovely spot, quite busy for a mid week in April. Worth watching the sun set from the nearby Hallin Fell. Went for another walk in the morning to the lake and I spotted a sign saying no overnight parking - enforcement in place. Someone had ripped it off and thrown it in a ditch. Suspect when the season gets going properly these will be replaced.

Amazing quiet location . Great for dawn photos . Perfect

  • 5/5

Stayed in the lower of the 2 spots. Had great views over the lake. Road quiet in the evening and silent at night. Good 4g on EE. Road up to the spot is narrow and winding.

  • 5/5

Sehr schöner ruhiger Platz. Tolle Aussicht, .an sollte aber auch fahren können. Gerade die Serpentinen sind für geübte Fahrer. Internet war auch vorhanden.

A beautiful, quiet spot with views over Ullswater. After the long road and several switch backs look out for two spaces - a lower one on the right just before the one on the left at the top. If you get to the car park on the right opposite the church car park then you have gone too far. Signage makes it clear you can’t park overnight in these car parks. The two spaces just below are great.

  • 5/5

Parked up the hill just before church no hassle. Signs been put up in church car park asking people not to stay overnight.

  • 4/5

A bit of a challenge to get up there but it is possible even with our 7.25m alkoof motorhome. we parked close to the church. a beautiful environment and a great place with kids. Nice views and hikes. No services, no bins.

  • 5/5

Fantastic secluded spot with views of Ullswater and surrounding fells. Several lay-by spots available at the top of the hill by the church. Busy with hikers early mornings but very quiet and peaceful nights. Unfortunately a few patches of scorched earth doted around from irresponsible fires. Let’s not be silly ey gang.

  • 5/5

Stayed here 1 night beautiful views, we had no dramas being told to move on, would recommend to anyone going to ullswater.

  • 3/5

Stunning view over ullswater, level ground, but was very busy(maybe because of school holidays) people parting till gone 11 o'clock but was very quite throughout the night.

  • 5/5

Glorious spot at the top of the pass. we stayed opposite the church where there is room for a handful of vans, some other spots in the church carpark or just down the zigzag road. really quiet at night, of course in the morning you get the farmers and walkers but nice and peaceful until then

  • 5/5

Amazing spot absolutely beautiful stayed here one night no problem and loved it will be back!

  • 5/5

very good spot specially off-road bit on the hill where you got nice view. completely dark and quiet at night. first walkers show around 7:30am. last bit of road may by difficult for longer campervans, very hilly with 180 degree bends.

  • 5/5

great view, good signal. Popular spot, few other vans nearby. quiet road, busy mornings. Seems to be a popular spot for early morning hikes - we were awoken at 5:30.

  • 5/5

superb night stay. We opted to stay opposite the church carpark up the grass verge as this gave us a view of Ulswater. quite road with very little traffic. few sheep grazing near by. Scorch marks on the grass where other had lit camp fires. would definitely stop here again!

  • 5/5

Had a great night here last night! Stayed further up nearer to the church on a little hill just left off the road. There were three or four camper vans/roof tents and then quite a few cars from people who had been wild camping. Nice and quiet though! 100% recommend staying here although the birds in the churchyard start quite early!

  • 5/5

I’ll start by saying I didn’t stay the night so I can’t comment on that. But at the end of the track on the climb to the parking area there’s some tight hairpin bends. I didn’t have a problem in my 6m long transit and when I got to the top there was a 7m long mini bus transit parked in the bays. The hairpins are tight but very much manageable in first gear

Amazing spot to stay for the night, great views of the little town at the bottom. Would not advise larger Motohomes unless staying in the car park! No one around for a while and only one other camper stayed while we were here. No access to water just a rough camping pitch which was brill for us!

  • 5/5

Perfect! Quiet, beautiful and rather fun to reach. We were in a MWB sprinter and parked on the lower space as the top one was taken. We definitely had the best views so would recommend the first one you find near the top rather than the one close to the car park.

  • 5/5

Perfect spot! Amazing view and quiet. Single spot further down and room for 2/3 if it’s intimate! At the peak. No sign for o/n stay.

  • 5/5

Great spot but quite sought after, would recommend arriving early if you want prime parking location. Amazing views and lovely walks in all directions.

  • 3/5

Access route at times is rough but ok during light. definitely recommend

  • 5/5

Beautiful spot such a stunning view room for two 4x4 with roof tent at a squeeze, steep road hard turns just take care, found clean left clean

  • 5/5

So quiet & amazing view. Scary steep & windy road to drive up to it but so worth it! There’s another wee spot just further up hill from this one too. Space for 1 van in each.

  • 5/5

It is an incredible spot, would highly recommend. And a sunset or sunrise hike up Hallin Fell is ideal from here as a bonus! Must go again.

  • 5/5

Beautiful spot with amazing views and lots of nearby walks. Road up was quite steep with lots of hairpin bends - wouldn’t recommend driving up in the dark with a large vehicle!

  • 5/5

Incredible spot. Don’t hesitate to visit here. Amazing views and so many different hiking routes. So so good.

  • 5/5

Lovely views, nice and quiet, take away your rubbish!

  • 5/5

Gorgeous views. road has a few bends but easy in campervan or small motorhomes. the 2nd church as you go into the valley is beautiful with a very old yew tree that you can stand inside :)hope people take all rubbish away so the area doesnt get spoilt

  • 4/5

A great view indeed. Lovely stars out at 3am. Didn't see any rubbish as previously mentioned. Maybe i didnt look hard enough. My van is 7m and got up easily enough. Just watch out for the cambers on the hairpins coming up and youll be fine. Saved it to come back here again

It’s nice, BUT wtf people would you just clean up your skanky wet wipes?! Found them in a big pile next to the spot in the photos ‘concealed’ in a bush that sheep were roaming within. Also several in the church graveyard.. I mean wtf? This ruined it for us, as well as they fact it feels very intrusive to locals - it’s staring right at you in the face as you drive along the only single track access road to the villages at the end of the track. We climbed the hill next to the space which was beautiful... but while at the top we saw a local approach a couple who’d arrived in another van and by the time we got down they’d left, so I guess it wasn’t a nice conversation. There were also about 8 vans there on the Tuesday night that we stayed ... might as well stay in a campsite.

  • 5/5

If the spot in the photos is taken drive a little further up and there's another slightly more off road spot but our low VW made it up the slope with a little bit of effort! Very winding road to access but worth it for the views across the mountains and lake! Very little traffic through the evening and silent overnight, plus spectacular for stargazing on a clear night.

  • 5/5

A beautiful spot overlooking Ullswater lake. Had food at Pooley Bridge Inn. Excellent all round ??

  • 5/5

Absolutely beautiful spot, would highly recommend fir those wanting a stop over in a quiet spot near several Wainwrights. Accessible to longer motorhomes but a few narrow roads enroute. Local snotty woman did say we'd get moved on but had no issues at all.

  • 5/5

Great spot. Fun, steep and windy road driving up, people in comments saying can't get long vans up there, I beg to differ! :) amazing view and walks, a definite must visit spot. Luke's Van Life.

  • 5/5

Great spot, thought it was a wild goose chase driving there but worth it. Would be careful if you have an overhang on some of the steep corners.

  • 4/5

Space for several vehicles to park in different spots, nice views overlooking the lake, seems to be well known and popular, luckily after the local boy racers had left the car park there were 3 vans and myself for the night, all were good neighbours and well spread out across the site. Very steep hair pins to get up there.

  • 1/5

Packed and over run with campers. People making fires and blasting music. Shame
