Sharp Edge on Blencathra is a serious accident 'Blackspot' & the Mountain Rescue can turn up here in more than one vehicle at any time of Night or Day! If a friend was injured & in trouble we would all prefer that the Mountain Rescue could assist them & not be obstructed as time is important!

This is NOT a good place to park overnight in a Van or Motorhome! 'This Place' is where the Mountain Rescue park their vehicles. Sharp Edge on Blencathra is a Blackspot for serious accidents & this small parking area is where the Mountain Rescue vehicles park. As the Rescuers can't fit into one vehicle they can turn up in many. Recently during a serious rescue Vans overnighting took up parking!!
Lovely carpark - came with a 7m campervan on a winter weekday. Not a problem parking or turning but imagine that on busy days it might be a challenge . Great place to start hikes
It was an adventure just finding this place. Very quiet. The babbling stream blocks out any noise from A66 below. The approach is super narrow and long with no passing places so don't bring a large van or motorhome up there. There is only space up there for 3-4 cars/vans. Absolutely no phone signal on EE
Continue past this space until you reach a lay-by where you can fit six vehicles. I wouldn't advise anything bigger than a medium-sized van as it's quite tight and gets very busy with local walkers. I was almost blocked in.
Great spot with great views and good to start the walk for Blencathra. We couldn't find it straight away, hopefully this helps: Have satnav go to White Horse Inn, their carpark is at the east of the building, the road for this parking spot is in-between the Inn and the Inn's gravel carpark it's a few minute drive along this road before you reach the end of the road/ spot. Happy traveling!
Severe bend on to road from 1 direction but we got a better angle by reversing onto 1 of the pub carparks. Really quiet overnight stay, excellent views but no facilities. Narrow drive up but was fine for us in a Berlingo plus a larger Motor home was already up there when we arrived. Room for at least 4 vehicles. White Horse Inn at bottom of road about 10 min walk, torch needed for return to van.
Stunning views, level, quiet - above the main road so only faintly hear the cars. Great for start of Blencathra hike but gets *very* busy in the morning with hikers - the spots fill up fast.
Found this secluded spot when visiting friends in Threkeld late on Xmas eve,space for around 5-6 small vans, woke to stunning views, close to walks up Blencathra. Was quiet all night, walkers turn up on a morning. Respect the surrounding area, as always keep it clean
perfect spot for me and my little car! there some more spots down the road if youve got a bigger vehicle.
Beautiful spot for the night. We had the place to ourselves. Popular spot for walkers to park up in the morning. Stunning views, slight road noise from the A66. The White Horse Inn that you pass is a must! Brilliant food and service
Poor spot! Only one space and it’s at a hideous angle I scraped the bottom of my car pretty bad. Plus side is there’s a nice view and it’s quiet
