Nice spot, in lay-by close to country road. Space for several vehicles but we were the only ones there.

PatrickABarrett05/04/2026Good spot for a nights stay, just off a local road but very quiet and secure night and although windy, we were sheltered by the tall hedgerows. Just an easy third of a mile stroll to Byland Abbey, impressive and fascinating 12C ruins and right opposite the Abbey Inn with excellent locally produced food and excellent service, although a bit on the pricey side but well worth it!

nickcl21/09/2024Large lay-by on a quiet country lane on the other side of the hillock from the picturesque medieval ruins of Byland Abbey, which is currently free entry with lots of information boards. The Abbey Inn opposite the Abbey serves food and drinks.

Unassuming lay-by, but a splendidly quiet place to spend a night. Great walking on nearby public rights of way, and Byland Abbey (free, and well worth a visit) is just a couple of hundred yards up the road. Would definitely stay again if I’m in the area.
freedom4thedamned31/08/2023Lovely view, nobody was there when I went for a brief stopover but I’m sure it livens up on the evenings in the summer. Quite noisy traffic if you’re planning on an overnight and you’re a light sleeper

Decent overnight stop. Fauconberg Arms at Coxwold 1 mile away worth a visit for feeding & watering.

Good place to stop for a night. Well off road, flat and quiet after 9.00pm. Uninterrupted night’s sleep.

Stayed overnight after deciding the parking in Helmsley was way too busy. Nice and quiet and short walk to the Abbey which is definitely worth a visit
