Perfect little spot. Was very busy when I arrived at 9pm, only one tiny spot left. The reason for my 3 stars may seem trivial but did really affect me! Be careful which tree you park under in October! Acorns (?) dropped loudly on my small van every 40-90 minutes which woke me up even with earplugs, leading to the disorienting sensation that I hadn’t slept all night. If you want privacy, this spot isn’t for you - absolutely packed with vans. But it felt very safe and you don’t feel like you’re disturbing people or likely to get moved on.

Although the road is busier than you may think for its size (including a half hourly 505 bus service) it does quieten down at night for a peaceful night. Pretty near level and firm ground. A lovely spot we would happily use again. Just us and 2 others for the night with space.

Tried to add a different spot but app says they are too close. If you have a T5/T6 sized van there is a spot about 25 yards to the left of this parking area. There is a small lane to the left and just down on the right is a beautiful spot big enough for one van, you'll have your own privacy and a sheltered area to sit out next to the river. Handy hint - reverse down the lane and into the spot.

would be a great spot, but a large motorhome, the size of a coach parked sideways and took up around 5 bays that regular vans could of got it. so inconsiderate.

Space for lots of cars, only 1 other camper and a car when we stayed. Right next to the river, and the road was quiet all night. Great spot!

Stayed there last night, lovely spot and just a short walk into Ambleside. The road quietened down around 11pm

Brilliant place to stay for a night or two , arrived at 4pm and was empty but come 6-7pm there was 7 vans so definitely gets busy! Good walks around the parking spot and about 20 mins to Ambleside

Great spot, pretty level and lovely views out the back doors if you reverse in. Fairly quiet at night.

Brilliant spot. we reversed parked for a good view of the river from the bed no noise until the morning but even then only a few cars around sat outside for a morning coffee pretty much level and feel safe

Lovely little spot. Little road traffic noise. Lovely sound of the flowing river. Felt safe, about 5 other vans parked up with us.

Stayed here for my first night out ever, shared with about 5 other vehicles. Lovely & quiet after about 8pm sat listening to the stream.

Really nice park up minimal traffic noise river flooded so nice calming sound 2 more vans here would definitely use again

Brillant place to stay overnight, no bins so make sure to leave no trace… Only a 25 minute walk into the town, with lots of great pubs and food. Corner shops are also available if you’re low on supplies. Very quiet after 5pm, noise starts again about 8am - but for a free place, this might be one of the best in Ambleside.

Parked here for the night, lucky to find a space..8 or 9 vans inches apart..Don't think I'll bother next time...

Gorgeous view of river and constant sound of water, which drowned out the road. Quiet through the night and a hidden area to bathe in the river. Mostly no signal.

perfect spot! we stayed here 2 nights, we never stay anywhere twice in one trip but we enjoyed it so much here! quiet night despite being next to the road, just lovely sounds from the flowing river adjacent, felt really safe and the surroundings are beautiful, options for an evening stroll, or sitting by the river with a book. Does get busy, you have to be lucky but definitely worth a try!!

Fantastic spot. Can get busy. Disappointed to find rubbish left here so picked up what we could see. This is how these type of free spots are put to an end.l unfortunately. There aren’t any bins situated here so take a bag with you. You can walk into town from here about 25 mins. Also on the walking path out toward Skelwith Fold which is a great facility. Enjoy!

Easy to pull up location with space for 8+ lovely setting with the river/stream at the back. Walk into Ambleside was longer than expected. Had a great nights sleep, pitch black and zero road noise until 7am, got a bit busy then but no biggy. Quite level not perfect.

Great little spot right next to the river and only a short walk from the centre of Ambleside. The road didn't seem that busy and was dead quiet at night but may be busier in peak season. Reasonably level and room for 8-9 vans easily.

very beautiful but no amenities not even a bin so please be respectful. it's a stunning little spot. close enough to the town for shopping, fuel, laundry, bins and camping sites. on a main road but not busy at night. we used our fire pit without any worries but only used our own wood bought from the local garage. A little gem of a spot.

V good spot on the outskirts of town, right next to a river and road but was raining heavily so I couldn’t hear much else over that haha, lots of space

Good spot by the river. Room for 6/7 vans. Busy with walkers, other campers etc. Road quiet 8pm-7am. Not much signal. Fine for a night

Lovely spot next to the river ! Just a shame the noise from the road is pretty loud and a lot of cars passing. Signal is also pretty awful which I don't mind when I want some time away from working online. I stopped off in the evening but didn't stay due to being put off by road noise as its expected in the morning.

Beautiful spot by the river. Fairly level and quiet at night. Will fit a 7.5m motor home under the trees. We were the only van overnight but the lay-by was pretty busy with cars until about 9pm. Quick early morning dip in the river too!

Very nice place overlooking the river, quiet at night except for the soothing water sound. I am a woman travelling alone and I felt very safe staying here, along with two other campers. Highly recommended!

Geweldige plek. Bij een mooie rivier . redelijk veel verkeer tot ongeveer 20.30 uur. Daarna werd het rustiger. Mooie wandeling gemaakt langs de rivier. Zeker een aanrader.

Very nice location near the road but it is quiet during the evening enough for 7-8 vans. Nice lookout onto a stream full of baby ducklings and a friendly Robin. Would recommend

Great location, can walk easily to Ambleside, and by a nice stream. Road quiet enough over night, bit busier in the morning. We got here early, but came back in the evening and was full of vans, so may be trickier to get a spot if you arrive later

Nice spot, stopped easter Bank Holiday, was busy and all spaces taken. 1 mile walk into Ambleside. A bit of road noise at night, especially the 2 comedians sounding there horns in the early hours.

La zona es muy bonita, con un río y un sendero al lado, a pesar de ser en la carretera. Pasaron algun tractor y camión por la noche muy ruidosos. Se llega a Ambleside en 15min a pie, hay unos 100m de tramo por la carretera sin acera (cuidado si vas con niños/as o perros/as).

Stayed here for a few nights with no bother. Cars parked up in day but very quiet at night. Lovely short walks to Skelwith Force and also to Loughrigg Tarn (stunning!). Calm, tidy, felt welcome in the spot.

An sich ein schöner Platz und praktisch, wenn man in der Gegend einen Ausflug macht. Leider direkt an der Straße, an der schon ab ca. 6 Uhr früh regelmäßig Autos fahren. Untertags ist sie stark befahren.

Perfekt für eine Nacht. 5-6 Plätze. Die anliegende Straße ist kaum befahren. direkt am Fluss mit schöner Aussicht.

Stayed here this weekend perfect little spot. Fits about 4/5 cars on. Walking distance from all the local attraction spots

perfect for us as I did a run in Grasmere the next day, can only fit about 6-8 campers, right next to river & road, absolutely perfect, no disturbance at all☆☆☆☆

Very pretty place, easy to reach and fairly low traffic. Very weak Internet signal. Stayed a Saturday night and it filled up with campervans even though it was January. Easy to understand why, I hope it won't be too difficult to use again in busier times of the year.

Nice little spot by the river, defo advise reversing in as previous people have said as it’s on a bend in the road. Not bad signal on 3 network

Lovely location, found a space easy but this might be the time of the year, best to reverse into bay as it’s on a corner, reversing out could be difficult, right on the river bank

Nice spot by the river. Quiet at night but traffic woke us at 7:00. Five vans were here last night. No facilities nearby but OK for our first ‘wild camping’ stop.

Easy 20 min walk into Ambleside. It was full of camper vans by about 8pm. Would definitely stay here again, beautiful spot!

Good little parking spot near to the water fall and walking distance to Ambleside town centre. At night time and get a little noisy as the parking space is on a busy main road. When I parked there there was only one other motorhome present. Would definitely use again for its central location.

Lovely spot by the river but road very busy in the morning. 2 cars beeped...probably due to the fact there were 6 MHs/vans in this small village layby. Moved on before breakfast.

Not a bad place for a stop over. No signal on EE or 3. Pretty river but that’s about all. Nice walk into Ambleside and a few trails nearby but bike trails mostly.

We stayed here last night. we had parked all day as went for a ride. was quiet on the road after about 10pm until a couple of cars honking around 7am. few other vans parked up too. no signs saying not to park etc. not overlooking/overlooked by any houses. right on a bridleway path. only a short walk into Ambleside for any necessities
