excellent why cant more councils do this. excellent car park big spaces gate doesn't seem to close but you never know. highly recommend. stayed last night going to pay for parking today and have a nice walk around. very quiet yes there is a train line but its not a problem just happy for safe clean space for the night

  • 3/5

very level parking in designated motorhome area, I arrived at 2.00pm so paid for day parking £4.20, machine was broken so did it by text, took 3 attempts before completed, not easy for the elderly ( I'm 76) but it was done. the gates! we're not closed at night...but it was very quiet, and yes very handy area.

  • 3/5

Ideal place to visit castle, directly behind. City centre 5-10 minutes walk. Designated parking for larger motorhomes. Gates locked at night so no joy riders. Quite at night. Only drawback trains seem to run overnight, especially freight. Noise a little intrusive. Would recommend to visit the area. Cost £4.20 all day, free overnight.

  • 5/5

    Sin servicios pero muy tranquilo!!!

  • 5/5

excellent location, no problems, quiet apart from odd train but manageable, right by castle and nice walks too. Very nice city. good stop and good value, good Internet

  • 4/5

On arrival this place does look a bit unappealing and if there were no other vans here I don’t think I would have stayed, but myself along with 3 other vans stayed the night and it was overall fairly quiet. you can hear the trains but this wasn’t a concern for myself plenty of spaces and bins to get rid of your rubbish, good signal on O2

  • 4/5

Right next to the castle and a lovely open park for walks, especially with dogs. As mentioned machines currently broken but you can pay via app or phone. Free between 6pm and 8.30am. £4.20 for the day outside of these hours. Was completely full the night I stayed and I didn’t find the trains a bother overnight. Gates didn’t shut.

  • 4/5

machines were broke but free after 1800hrs anyways, was put off by some of the other reviews but actually plenty of others stopping over night, trains weren't too noisy and close to supermarket and park.

  • 5/5

We weren't sure if the 'for 24 hours' had a 'but no overnight camping' restriction so phoned the council who said it was OK to stay, but be aware the gates get locked overnight so if you wanted to leave overnight the security firm had a call our charge. We didn't stay overnight but can confirm it is a fabulous place and just a few minutes stroll into the city.

  • 5/5

Pagamos 4,20.

  • 5/5

Stayed here before, 5 min walk into the town, shops, restaurants, bars and lovely old buildings. Castle is very picturesque. Freight trains running at night, but didn't both us. pay by app. lovely

  • 4/5

Egy éjszakára voltunk itt, akit zavar a közelben található rendszerinti vonat járat annak nem ajánlott itt éjszakázni. 24 órára a parkolási díj 4,10 Font.

  • 4/5

Stopped for a night travelling south. Handy for city centre and loads of space when we visited. One bit of advice, try not to park near the railway line, freight trains run most of the night

  • 3/5

Stayed overnight as I was getting a bus for a concert, left my van at around 13:00 after paying £4.10 for parking. Was feeling quite happy about leaving it due to gates apparently being shut overnight however returned at 2:30am and gates open. Paid parking for next morning again at £4.10. No toilets, lots of noise from trains but was confident for what we needed. Would use again.

  • 2/5

  • 4/5

nice big car park, no toilets. campervans and motorhomes have their own bays. free after 1800hrs to 0830. payed on app for a days parking at a cost of £4.10. 5 min walk into town center (good night out). bad points train noise and seagulls. but will use it again. gate wasnt shut at night.

  • 4/5

Plenty of parking spaces, we found the gate didn’t close so vehicles could still enter late at night. Mcvities factory nearby made the whole area smell amazing and a large Sainsbury’s is within walking distance.

  • 4/5

Free parking specifically for motorhomes in a big car park in a city centre which is great. One side was busy as the opposite was against the train tracks but once asleep couldn’t hear them anyway. Decent night stopover if needed.

  • 3/5

  • 5/5

Great location, 10 minute walk to the city centre. Gated at night. No services.

  • 5/5

Great park up. Loads of space. A little train noise early on and a few kids in the park but apart from that it a great big carpark with specially marked bays for campers and caravans. Staying here 13th Jun 25.

  • 3/5

Baustelle auf der Straße zum Parkplatz. Umleitungsschildern folgen.

  • 1/5

    Zufahrt wegen Bauarbeiten gesperrt.

  • 4/5

Last night was all good again, but road (Devonshirel closed so follow diversion round the back of the castle, not Google. Roadworks stuff in carpark but still good for dogs and us. Gates not closed. Free from 6pm to 8.30am

  • 3/5

Good flat parking. Seems like if you want to pay for just an hour or two the only option is to pay the car rate as the caravan rate is set at £4.10. Never saw the gates closed at any time.

  • 3/5

Free over night till 8:30am reason for 3 stars Was trains were pretty loud, but I can sleep Through anything and Gates weren’t locked Meaning the local speed freaks use the car park as a race track Was more worried they might lose control and hit one of the vans. They disappeared at 11 pm but thought I’d mention it just in case people come here and the gates aren’t locked overnight to be wary

  • 5/5

  • 5/5

Great central place to stay free after 6pm until 8:30am we paid for the hours we stayed after 8:30am, quiet night short walk into the centre, would highly recommend.

  • 5/5

arrived at lunch time and there is loads of room in carpark, no trouble parking payment is simple via the app.level and clean bins in the park, and Sainsbury's just over the bridge 5min walk.

  • 5/5

Great facility a short walk from Carlisle castle, the city centre and parks and walks. Lots of trains. We parked on the castle side and slept through the night, didn't hear any until around 7am. Flat, felt safe, calm, low cost, very happy and will enjoy using in future. Thank you to the local council.

  • 4/5

Great location Bitts park at end of car park is a lovely walk, there’s a Sainsbury’s over the river for toilets, don’t lock gates at night, 10. Mins walk into town centre and has two Wetherspoons for cheap drinks.

  • 5/5

Ideal location. Perfect for walks and close to city centre. Sainsburys almost next door. Only downside is train line and road right next to parking but still a fantastic place to stop

  • 5/5

What a fantastic place to park up for the night. And it's free but even though we are leaving early we paid the parking for tomorrow, felt guilty not to pay something. It was spotless

  • 5/5

Great spot. Plenty of space. Several other people stopping here. Felt safe. Trains weren't too noisy.

  • 3/5

Great place to park up for visiting the city during the day. But when it got to the evening we didn’t feel like it was an especially safe or relaxing place to spend the night because of trading noise and risk of antisocial behaviour locally.

  • 4/5

Recomendable.

  • 3/5

schlecht: züge sehr laut..gut: security fährt vorbei...nicht alle automaten akzeptieren karte.....

  • 5/5

A great recommendation. Also to note parking charge runs 24hrs so if you arrive 4pm one day & pay the £4.10 fee it runs till 4pm next day.

  • 5/5

Great spot flat and loads of space. Nice that it’s locked at night too.

  • 4/5

As described other than not locked overnight as funfair in town.

  • 5/5

Endroit parfait pour visiter la ville

  • 3/5

Parking publico con espacio para autocaravanas. Sin ningún servicio. No hay contenedores de basura.

  • 5/5

God placering tæt på centrum. Vi havde en god nat på stedet

  • 4/5

Car park is free between 6 pm and 8.30 am. Plenty of space to park. Gates are locked around 8 pm, opened at 6.30 am. The only issue is that the trains are noisy. Short walk to public toilets in kids park around the corner; they were locked overnight but were open in the morning. Stayed on 8 July 2024.

  • 5/5

Great Moho parking for castle visit. Spacious parking with 15 long spaces- 7 of which will take a caravan/car combo.

  • 4/5

Paid £4.10 (cash only) at time of arrival, expiry time and date on ticket is for 24 hours. Fairly quiet night apart from the trains. Walked down to the McVities factory shop and got a bag full of biscuits for £7 :)

  • 4/5

£ 4,10 sind in Münzen zu bezahlen! = Parkschein für 24 Stunden

  • 4/5

Parked overnight. Paid £4.10 so we didn’t need to rush in the morning. Some works taking place in the far end of the car park so some noise starting in the early morning. Close to Cathedral and Castle (English Heritage). Town also within walking distance. Toilets locked in the evening.

  • 5/5

Here again in hattie for one night , still cracking value at £4.10 for 24 hours, defo come back, lev nowt behind

  • 5/5

Excellent value for money. Arrived after 6pm on Friday and paid £4.10 for the full day Saturday, ticket valid until 8.30am on Sunday. Felt safe and it was quiet at night. There are public toilets in the park or Sainsburys is a short walk away.

  • 5/5

Stayed here as a solo traveller. Slept well and felt safe. Yes you can hear the trains but I still slept well. I don’t know if it was because it was Sunday but the gates remained open through the night.

  • 5/5

Having read the previous post we visited the Carlisle Civic Centre to enquire about parking overnight and was told it was fine to park here as long as you are in the marked bay and paid.

  • 4/5

Great place near town centre BUT NO overnight parking allowed now….risk of fines.

  • 3/5

Many spaces for MH to park. £3.80 for the day, free over night. Easy to pay by app or using cash. Trains pass by throughout the night and woke me a few times but I expect that if we’re using a space like this. Several vans stayed overnight. Rubbish bins are the only service. An easy walk into the centre.

  • 4/5

Nice central little spot. Well lit and felt very safe. Free overnight. Loses a star for train noise :(

  • 4/5

Stayed 22nd Jan. Good parking and £3.80 for 24 hrs. Trains passing but didn't keep us awake. Had a good night sleep - just us and one other camper. Gates not locked and a car came in doing donuts in car park at around 9:30/10pm ish, but didn't stay long.

  • 5/5

  • 5/5

stayed last night, only our MH and one car on the car park arrived late, but the gates were still open, parked in designated bay and even though it was quite cold -3 degrees great night sleep,no disturbances

  • 2/5

Would only stay here if I were really stuck. boy racers doing donuts in the car park till after 11. The noise isn't the issue but we're skidding a little to close to my van.

  • 5/5

great place for an overnight stop, large motorhome bays, £3.80 till 6pm, free overnight

  • 3/5

Massive car park with designated spaces for campervans. Next to a gorgeous park with spotless public loos BUT the car park is floodlit all night and who knew Carlisle was such a hub of rail activity! Literally trains every 20 mins or so ALL night, freight and repositioning passenger trains. Great spot tho if you're not a light sleeper and 10min walk into shops, pubs n takeaways.

  • 5/5

Great overnight spot...well done Carlisle...hats off to you

  • 5/5

Excellent park up right next to the Castle. £3.80 all day and free at night. Designated spaces for campervans but if they are full then there are loads of standard spaces. I am here for a festival in the Castle and will stay for 3 nights. Even though it’s a big event the car park is empty with only 3 or 4 campervans parked up overnight. Kids were noisy till about 10pm and trains are every 5 minutes and right next to the car park. The trains did seem to stop overnight and didn’t bother me at all. Great spot and I must say it’s excellent that Carlisle welcomes campervans. Unlike most of the UK.

  • 4/5

Good sized spaces to park up, only £3.80 for campers/motorhomes between 8.30am and 6pm then free for the night after. It says the car park is closed but it didn’t get shut while we were there. Quiet except for the trains, it was a hot night so we had windows open and they come through several times per hour all night so bear in mind if you are a light sleeper.

  • 4/5

Had a great overnight stop here. Arrived at 7pm already a few campers. There are designated caravan/coach spaces, but this is a large car park so we parked in a general space. There was some plant in the car park where work is ongoing and the generator for the security lights was a bit annoying, so try and park away from it. Gates were not locked overnight. I would recommend.

  • 5/5

Had a great quiet night here last night. Trains did not bother us, great toilets nearby in the park that open at 9am.

  • 1/5

  • 5/5

Quiet after boy racers gone home.

  • 5/5

The best parking in town. £ 3 for all far long, including overnight and camper vans?! What a bargain. Thanks city council for enabling that. 10/10 loved it.

  • 5/5

Perfect spot! Free to park for the night, daytime parking between 8:30 am and 6pm is £3 for a whole day. Next to the railroad, but we slept soundly. Highly recommended!

  • 5/5

£3.80 for 24 hrs. Take coins. No facilities but gate is locked at 8pm so secure. During the daytime there are public toilets on the park adjacent. Plenty of room (we were only ones there!) 5 mins walk to town centre. Highly recommend.

  • 4/5

  • 3/5

Good one night here, but trains are really noisy, Free from 6pm to 8:30am. Parking gates were to be closed overnight, but were not.

  • 4/5

Quiet spot, level tarmac and we parked up with some fellow MH travellers. Gates we’re locked which stopped the yarhoos driving about, and it’s only £3 for 24 HRs parking. Bargain.

  • 2/5

Very noisy. There are many trains on one side, traffic on the other, a skatepark and ambulances driving by. It was a little more quiet between 23-7h. It is free between 18-830h and there were signs about the gate closing at 20h but they were still open at 23h. Upside: specific bays for motor homes and relatively close to the city center and castle of course. Won’t stay here again.

  • 3/5

  • 4/5

Quiet night except for trains, gate locked at night, foot access still possible. Close to amenities walks and parks

  • 3/5

Stayed here for two nights, the price is right at £3.80, change is best for the machine. Easy walk to everything and they lock the gates which keeps the horns out. Didn’t hear a train on Sunday night but Monday night got woken a couple of times, still good for the money. No services and the bins were already full.

  • 5/5

  • 5/5

Platz war leer als wir kamen.

  • 5/5

Cracking over nighter just a short walk to Carlisle town centre, no services but toilets r just a short walk away, there are new signs up explaining that the carpark will be locked overnight, I spoke to the local council who said it is still OK to stay overnight in u motorhome, but to get out when gates r locked u hav to pay £45, still only £3. 80p for 24 hours, wot a bargain, defo come back

  • 4/5

Were a bit nervous about parking here having read previous reviews about eggs been thrown at vans, But we took the risk. Granted the trains could be an issue for some, but did not bother us. Couple of races went past late night. But all in all it was a peaceful night for the 4 vans/motohomes staying here. But hand place to stay for a visit to Carlisle. Free overnight and free at weekends.

  • 1/5

We stayed here for 1 night we was only parked up for 30 mins next to another motorhome and a dark grey transit van with 2 grown men pulled up and threw eggs all over mine and the next doors motor home they then returned 20 mins later when the notices we seen them they switched there lights off on there van and drove off, it’s full of drunken people walking over the car park making plenty off noise

  • 4/5

Same comments as below. Good stop over. Will use again.

  • 4/5

Nice level car park. Loads of room. Noise from passing trains, parked on the opposite side of the car park away from the tracks and slept undisturbed. Gates locked at 8pm, no boy racers, they all left just before they got locked in. Will use this again for Carlisle. Nice stopover. £3.80 per day. Free overnight 6pm-8.30am. We arrived after 6pm and paid for the following day so didn’t leave early.

  • 4/5

spacious and flat parking. Gate wasn't locked on our Saturday night 3Dec but all safe; went out to a pub in town. Terribly noisy with engineering works on railway all night.

  • 4/5

secure and safe £3.80 for 24 hours large motorhome bays. short walk to centre of Carlisle, frequent trains but you get used to it. we would use again.

  • 4/5

Great safe parking gates locked 20:00 - 06:30 free at weekends £3:80 24hrs mid week just a 10 min walk into city centre if you park furthest away from trains then it’s only a faint noise didn’t bother us

  • 5/5

Tranquilo. No tiene servicios, es un parking normal. A lado del castillo. Muy bien ubicado para conocer la ciudad. 3.80£ la noche

  • 5/5

Excellent place for a short or long stay. Locked gates after 20.00 opened at 6.30. Safe and near to Carlisle centre. £3.80 for 24hrs.☆☆☆☆☆

  • 5/5

Convenient stop for visiting Carlisle (10 m walk through park). Free parking weekends and bank holidays but no overnight sleeping. Free three hours for disabled badge holders. Thank you Carlisle.

  • 3/5

Stayed on a Friday night All good. Lovely walks and brilliant play park . Short walk to town feels secure. Would definitely return.

  • 3/5

  • 5/5

24 large designated spots for motorhomes. £3.80 for 24hrs ,no charge overnight or weekends.Brilliant spot for visiting the castle or city centre 5min walk. Trains go slowly past but didn't bother us,the seagulls did lol. we spent 2 nights here and will definitely be back.

  • 5/5

Excellent parking lot. Quiet at night, no parking fee in weekends and bank holidays. Only a few trains came by slowly, which not bothered at all. The gate has not been closed during our stay from saturday until sunday. If you want to leave at night you can call security, £45,- for releasing. Closure times may vary at special events or late night shopping at thursdays in november and december.

  • 4/5

Police knocked on the door at 1am due to a crime. Other than that, is a useful stop over , especially good for dog owners. Right next to a park. Paid &3.80’to stay overnight.

  • 4/5

Pros: plenty of spaces, close to park, £3.80 for 24hrs and overnight allowed, gates locked at 8.30pm to stop boy racers, 10 mins from centre. Cons: trains (though quieter after 11pm and better if you park by the road), skate park with youths messing around till late, eg motorbikes, drinking, no rubbish facilities other than regular litter bins. But well done Carlisle council for providing.

  • 5/5

Designated Motorhome bays on the car park why can’t every city do this and it’s free on the weekend does have the railway line extremely close so be aware if parking overnight

  • 5/5

  • 4/5

Being able to park and sleep overnight for £3:80p in a city centre location is amazing. We had a lovely walk around Carlisle, thank you to the city authorities for allowing this. Other places could learn to welcome motorhomers in this way

  • 5/5

Stayed here 1st May 2022. Barrier gate was locked about 8:30pm, no comment or reaction about us staying over. I only heard 3 trains in 24 hours and they were short trains and slow. The car park is free on weekends and bank holidays so it was free for our stay - very happy with that! Can take any size vehicle up to full Coach

  • 2/5

  • 5/5

Really great spot. Quick pullover from the motorway. Safe and well lit.

  • 5/5

Perfect place to stay right by castle and city centre. Very quiet. Car park was closed over night

  • 5/5

£3-70 to park daily. Free overnight. Designated motorhome/caravan/coach parking bays. park beside the road, not beside the train track. very quiet overnight. right beside the castle. Excellent value

  • 5/5

Next to train tracks but didn't hear any trains. No covid testing centre here as previously noted in reviews. Gates are locked 20:30 to 07:00. Not as picturesque as Rickerby Park but convenient for city centre and Sainsbury's just a 5 min walk away.

  • 3/5

Free to park overnight, although signs say closed overnight, the gates aren’t closed. £3.60 charge for 08:30-1800. Right next to train line so it is noisy. There is also currently a Covid testing station that has a huge generator running all night. Massive search lights on the car park. No noise or activity. from boy racer or drug dealers. Good access to the park, river, castle and city. Just a bit noisy so take some ear plugs. We slept well and felt safe. Although Rickerby is probably better for a good nights sleep and a lot prettier.

  • 2/5

£3.60 overnight which gives access to Carlisle, Really noisy due to trains all night and Ambulances sirens. There is a Covid test centre on site with Generators running constantly. The best bit is the fabulous smell from the nearby biscuit factory!

  • 1/5

No overnight parking available - all gates locked. moved on to Rockley Park and stayed there overnight.

  • 3/5

Great free safe overnight, hourly rate by day. Sign says closed( locked?) overnight but been there twice recently and not locked either time. Wee bit noisy from trains nearby.

  • 4/5

  • 3/5

Good location, huge carpark, special places for campers, but no overnight parking allowed.

  • 3/5

  • 4/5

Stayed over night. Loverly and pieceful... Car park has welcome motorhome sign... Very close to the city. Short walk

  • 2/5

    4,5 £/24h

  • 3/5

Close to a large park and children's play area.
