Arrived here on a Wednesday just after 3pm. Was very excited to find this spot, however it was all closed up. Think they must have closed early but everyone around just ignored us.

We had a lovely quiet Saturday night here. The trains were running and the cafe was open. Everyone was kind and friendly. The barrier closed at about 4.30 pm and was opened at about 8.30 am next morning.

We had a very quiet and peaceful night in January , we were the only van in the car park which is mostly gravel and level . There is a café on the station platform which is excellent and also where you pay your £5.00 overnight fee , the owners were super friendly and offered water top up too .There are public toilets on the platform which are open during business hours,a ten minute walk into town

Great quiet park up just a 5 mins walk to town. Walks and hikes directly from the car park. The surface is hard with some gravel parts. There is a gorgeous cafe at the station. Really lovely welcoming people. £5 donation to the railway for the night. Do let them know you are there - they told us the gates aren’t open on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Turned up at 7pm. Huge sign outside the gated carpark saying the gates are locked everyday at 1630. Went to the other free car park where we had a quiet night

As previously stated, nice quiet spot next to river and footpath alongside railway, ideal for walking/cycling. Super friendly staff in cafe, no facilities (other than toilets during cafe opening times). Gates locked from 21:00-09:00 but pedestrians can still get in/out so you can pop into town.

Wee railway carpark. Lovely quiet night, gates locked 9pm to 9am. Remember to make a sizable donation, min £5 but worth double that. Nice cafe/bistro on the railway platform.

What a gem. Please support this heritage railway. Having passed the huge jams going towards the Lakes at Penrith on my way from Scotland I turned NE and after brilliant drive through moors arrived at wonderful Alston. Peace; only one other van here with room for thirty. No services after cafe closes but the best fiver I've parted with on this trip. Please pay at cafe or by phone.
