Large lay-by on a country road in front of the Talybont reservoir. A few people come here to walk and walk their dogs or fish, but they leave you alone. You can walk along the reservoir and there are also benches along the trail; you can also cross the road and walk along a public walkway. The road is not too busy and is quiet. There is Internet with Three and EE, although it is quite slow. I agree, a superb spot. Felt very comfortable here along with other tourers. Big lay-by off road. Upto 12 vehicle’s Fantastic views through the trees to the lake. Very quiet road, no traffic at night.

Really quiet spot with stunning views of the reservoir. No facilities but had 5G on EE. Would highly recommend.

  • 4/5

Fairly sheltered spot with a picnic bench. No connection. Not all flat. Location excellent close to A40 and right by the reservoir.

  • 4/5

Beautiful views of Talybont reservoir. Nice walks around it or the woods. Good park for the night, ground fairly unlevel, really quite odd vehicle, few dog walkers.

  • 5/5

Lovely spot. We were the only ones parked for the night. Lots of trails, great for hiking. Beautiful view of the reservoir. No phone of mobile data. No facilities.

  • 4/5

Schön am Seeufer gelegen. Nachts leise. Abends und morgens Spaziergänger. Etwas uneben aber schöner Platz

  • 5/5

quiet overnight spot with other campervans around. only annoying thing: mosquitoes in the evening

  • 5/5

A really beautiful free park up, with decent shade for a really hot day. Quiet, good walks, great spot, dog friendly. Met two lovely Welsh Water guys the following morning who were there to strim the picnic area and path, and I asked how to dispose of the big bag of litter I’d collected and they kindly took it for us. Will be back!

Second time I’ve slept at this Resovior, the spot at the end with the lay bys was quieter when I slept there as there were a few beeps in the night & a car that parked really close with lights on at 2am. Shower, toilets & bike wash 10 mins up the road in the village. In the opposite direction 10 mins to start lots of hikes towards fan-y-big & pen-y-fan etc :)

  • 5/5

easy to find, quite area. 15mins away from Brecon. 1x picnic table

  • 5/5

Amazing spot by the lake with easy access and many trail options. There is EE reception. No bins, please keep this place clean. Would absolutely come again.

  • 5/5

Absolutely loved this spot. Very quiet, hidden from road, right by the reservoir.

  • 5/5

This was a lovely spot. A 2 min walk from the Resvoir. Plenty of parking when I went too. The only downside was the no wifi - which felt a little scary for a newbie and alone camper. But would definitely recommend!

  • 3/5

Nice space probably get about 6 cars easy. I am with EE and had no signal

  • 5/5

Lovely place. Easy access by car. Two tables with benches. Relatively not far from Pen-y-fan. One fireplace. At night there is a slight noise from the nearby road. Purely.

stunning spot. was just myself and one other camper. quiet, peaceful and a great night. had Chinnock helicopters fly over about 10pm. no phone signal EE. picnic tables just through the gate. would definitely stay again.

Perfect spot for an overnight stay, beautiful area and Tolybont Village Hall has showers for £1.

  • 5/5

    Great spot. Matches description.

  • 5/5

Arrived late and just one car there. Went for a walk from there during the day. Excellent spot.

  • 5/5

    Lovely spot. accurate description.

I had stayed here a few times over the last year and recently revisited it. Unfortunately the lay-by was completely full , as was the the reservoir head and the fire track around the back which was actually blocked by people parking in it . I walked that evening and counted about 20 fires or BBQ , these are absolutely NOT allowed in the morning I drove past and it there was litter blowing around.

Great spot just watch out for the mosquitoes at dusk

1st wild camp after my conversion warden knocked on door next morning telling us there are no facilities here for camping overnight we said we were leaving and was very polite to us ..

  • 1/5

Warden came to move us on. No longer allowed & warden now attends daily. Another beautiful spot ruined by over use & littering by a few :-(

  • 5/5

Nice place to sleep. We came lot of times cos it's very quiet in the nights. Busy in last bank holiday but it's normal. Huge lake and endless path to walk, down or at top of the mountain. Lovely spot!

Five campers spent the night out of six or seven spaces. Most left in the morning just before the dog walkers came. Great access to the lake, very calm and private overnight, highly recommended.

  • 5/5

A lay by seconds walk from the waters edge. Very busy during the day and was told it was full on the weekend overnight as well. We stayed on a Monday night with 3 other vans. Very quiet with very few cars passing on the road. Great spot to take the walk around the lake.

Another favourite spot of ours which is only a few miles from home but the scenery is spectacular and it’s very peaceful. Be aware that the area is in the Brecon Beacons National Park and wardens can and do turn up. They normally turn a blind eye to people staying in campers/motor homes in the lay-by but camp fires are strictly forbidden so use your discretion. There are no bins so you need to take your litter with you and if you want a mobile signal you need to cross over the road and go straight up the mountain track. One last thing....remember to lock your vehicle and hide valuables from sight as, although you probably wouldn’t think it, the town of Merthyr Tydfil is not far away and unfortunately there are thieves who come over the mountain to target tourists.

I arrived at midnight coming from the east off the A40. To get to it there was a weight limit over a bridge of 7t, a 4 meter height restriction and a couple of narrow lanes but at that time of night no oncoming traffic. unfortunately when I arrived there were two renta-campers parked using up enough space for 4 motorhomes. The last free slot was too uneven and muddy as this is a dirt road.

  • 5/5

Spent the bank holiday Saturday night here along with around for other motorhomes and a few tent campers, all of whom were considerate and we had a quiet night there. Couldn't get any signal at all on EE, O2 or Vodafone. Fantastic views and brilliant spot to go walking from. Access road was narrow in places but this should not put you off.

  • 5/5

Didn’t stay here for the night but wished we did, great little spaces to park up next to the reservoir looking out over the water, we did cycle the route round and highly recommend it

  • 5/5

Grate spot lay-by set just off the road. No restrictions.
