Very friendly people who run the pub, unfortunately it was very rowdy and noisy into the early hours. A drinker from the pub was banging on the side of our van at 10pm, not sure what that was about! We may have just been unlucky but would not stay here again.

This was our second stay at the Starting Gate. A very warm welcome once again with a great range of food and drinks at a good price. No camping facilities but safe and an easy bus ride into the centre of the city. Quite a lot of space, too.
great little stop over. zoe was very approachable and said park round the back stating the toilets was closer and we could.use until closing.she also stated if we wanted any water thenjust say. some lovely little dog walk.hubby and I as well as 2 doggie dinners the food was excellent really good and the dogs loved the.steak and the chicken meal.i absolutely recommend this stop over
Fantastic night here with our son. Brilliant value for food and drinks and nice secluded spot around the back of the pub.
Very friendly staff. We were able to leave our camper van on the parking while we took the bus into town, and spent a verypeacefull night there. The food was good and very cheap
Arrived at the starting gate and sat down for a meal and a drink. The food was really great value for money and staff was really friendly. We even got to participate in a pub quiz. Plenty of room to park the camper in the back of the premises for an overnight stay.
Prima plek om te overnachten als Nottingham wilt bekijken. Vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel. Lekker eten voor prima prijzen. 25 minuten fietsen van het kasteel. Ingang parkeerplaats ligt NIET aan Candle Meadow maar aan de A612, Daleside Road East. Komen zeker terug als we in de buurt zijn.
Adoramos o lugar, seguro, calmo, não paga nada , pedem somente para avaliar no google, a comida uma delicia, o ambiente lindo, com opções para crianças, perto de um parque delicioso para caminhar ou fazer exercícios, fica a 3 km do castelo, fomos de bike. Ficamos duas noites, sábado ainda podem curtir uma musica. GratidÃo
Sind spontan angereist und für eine Nacht geblieben. Die Betreiber sind sehr herzlich und die Stimmung im Pub war sehr angenehm. Bushaltestelle ist direkt nebenan und die Fahrt in die Stadt ist unproblematisch. Jederzeit wieder!
Wir waren für eine ruhige Nacht hier. Wir sind sehr nett empfangen worden. Das Essen war sehr lecker. Auch die Busfahrt in die Stadt, von der nahen Bushaltestelle, war sehr besucherfreundlich. Wir würden wieder kommen und sagen DANKE.

Wir machten hier auf unserer Reise durch England halt und können es auf jeden Fall empfehlen. Der Parkplatz ist definitiv Wohnmobil tauglich und insbesondere hinter dem Pub sehr ruhig. Wir empfehlen sich am Tresen kurz anzumelden, einfach weil es höflicher ist. Die Toiletten darf man mit benutzen. Wir haben zweimal im Pub gegessen, es war vorzüglich und darüberhinaus auch günstig. Ein klares Ja!
Super um eine Nacht zu verbringen, Essen und Getränke im Pup sehr zu empfehlen, Preise sind Top. Öffnungszeiten des Pup‘s 11-23 Uhr, in dieser Zeit kann auch die Toilette benutzt werden! Angestellte nett und zuvorkommend. Die Nacht war ruhig, morgens wird es durch die Straße etwas lauter. Leider im Pup kein Frühstück möglich, aber kein Problem denn auf der anderen Seite kann man gut Frühstücken.

Passamos duas noites aqui e foi ótimo, estacionamento amplo e com muitas vagas. O que eles pedem em troca é uma avaliação do Google, não precisa nem consumir no local. Porém consumimos tbm e a comida e cerveja são ótimas. Não tem serviço, apenas banheiro do PUB
The Starting Gate is the best place to stay in Nottingham. I have been here several times now and the staff are amazingly helpful. The parking and use of facilities is free as long as you use the pub, and the food here is fantastic. Will definitely be coming back again soon.

Ideal stop for a visit into Nottingham as bus stop near entrance to the pub. Nice pub but food is a little short on quantity. Good amount of space to park, we were in a 7.45mt moho. can be a bit of noise from houses behind and road at the front. There was 2 HGV units parked near and 1 decided to run the engine for 2 hours in the evening.
Excellent stop for central Nottingham, has a large flat and safe car park. Quiet at night. Short bus ride into town. Great value food and drink too. Winner all round! Thanks Starting Gate!
An amazing welcome , after travelling for 9 hours from Cornwall to Nottingham, in the rain. Very friendly & helpful. Treated with such kindness- outstanding service ! Lovely meal , good value , 80's music play list, cozy pub. Tina even gave our 2 therapy labs some left over sausages . Her colleague was very kind, too. Definitely recommend this stopover. Lovely Park & walks nearby.

Perfect place to stop. On a bus route to Nottingham town centre. Food was good quality and a great price. We had 2 4 1 burger night. They are not open for breakfast so we walked to Toby Carvery for breakfast. Friendly staff.

Sehr nette Leute, authentischer Pub, incl. Essen und Trinken. Übernachtung auch ohne BritStops problemlos möglich. Straßenlärm allerdings deutlich hörbar.

The staff were very welcoming and happy for us to stay the night. We had a meal here but there was no obligation to. Resonably priced pub food with a good atmosphere. Would come again.

ottimo parcheggio per passare una notte e visitare la cittá, personale del Pub molto gentili, non chiedono consumazioni, abbiamo preso due birre visto che la cucina era gia chiusa alle 22.00. notte tranquilla e bus a lato che ti porta in cittá in 15m.
Geweldige ontvangst. Zoek maar een plekje zolang je niemand blokkeert . Zelfs een maaltijd of drinks wordt niet gevraagd. Lekker eten en goede sfeer. Bus naar het centrum op de hoek. Jammer dat er ook mensen met een camper hier gratis parkeren, maar aan de overkant van de weg, bij de concurent, gaan eten en drinken. Totaal geen schaamte.
Freundliches Personal, gezapfte Biere und Essen und Biergarten. Mit dem Bus 44 geht es im 10-Minuten-Takt mitten in die Stadt. Hinter dem Lokal steht man für die Nacht ausgezeichnet ruhig. Sehr empfehlenswert und für die Gastfreundlichkeit kann man sich mit etwas Konsum und Empfehlung bedanken.
Used this as a stopover for a driving course just up the road. phoned ahead and staff were really kind and helpful... just turn up and park. its an urban setting and large carpark. we parked at the back of the pub, no issues. had a drink at the bar and left the next morning.
Great food, value and service. They also let us park our motor home in the car park overnight for free. £2 on the bus into center of Notts, and the bus stop is right next door. Lovely walk in the morning around the lake. What else could you want.

Really good base for visiting Nottingham. Large car park with a garden. Great place to stop and walk the dog as lots of field space for them to run around. Car park is pretty quiet. Yes there is some noise from the pub guests but it is not excessive. Manager and Staff are very welcoming and food is good, reasonably priced and hot.
Haben gestern hier geparkt und von hier aus bequem mit dem Taxi in die City von Nottingham! Sehr freundliche Betreiber, haben abends dort gegessen ... sehr lecker, das Bier war gut und der Pub ist sehr gemütlich. Haben im hinteren Bereich geparkt und hatten eine ruhige Nacht. Keine V E aber trotzdem 5 Sterne, kommen gern wieder!
Nottingham has very few places for stopovers. Starting Gate at the racecourse (NG2 4DX) is good. They are laid back about the need to eat but it is of course courteous. We were late so just had beers n wines. They also have a gluten free menu. Park round the back out of the way. Friendly staff and decent pub.
Very sub standard food (spoons vibes) but cheap. Happy for us to stay in car park and easy to find but it’s not the nicest place and also the pub is quite loud. It’s karaoke night tonight and I have been kept up by loud music and singing! Not to mention drunk women arguing outside! not the worst night I’ve spent but probably wouldn’t come back here
Lovely pub on the outskirts of the city and absolutely no problem staying there for a night or two, only asked that we left a review. Regular buses to and from the centre so perfect for the football. No facilities but safe and friendly staff. Will definitely return.

Decent stop over, plenty of space on the car park at the front and round the back for campervans and bigger motorhomes quiet at night and on the mornings. Toilets can be used during opening times. Food was nice with a decent menu and staff are friendly. Only a 5/10 minute drive to the centre of Nottingham
a good stop over for the night, food was great and cheap, the road was a bit noisy but OK later on.
Lovely peaceful stopover with a quiet car park. Inside the pub there is plenty of seating, all areas are dog friendly with treats and water bowls available. The menu is extensive, reasonable value and good quality. Staff are very friendly. It’s situated just off the main Colwick loop access to the major bus route into the city. Perfectly placed.
Super endroit où dormir après avoir visité Nottingham, la journée avait été très pluvieuse, nous étions fatigués et il n'y avait pas beaucoup de spot sur la route que l'on voulait prendre, on a décidé de se poser juste ici, c'était super, nous étions 2 et on a mangé et bu une pinte chacun pour 24€ en tout, prix abordable ! Soirée karaoké en plus ! super ambiance pour rattraper la pluie ! :) Top

welcome fantastic, lovely stop over you have Colwick country park right on your vans step. unfortunately my first choice of meal was inedible beef lasagne and the pasta was mush. Had to reorder which was no problem. would stay here again.
Großer Parkplatz an einem Pub. Sehr freundliches Personal und riesige Portionen. Das Essen war eher Durchschnitt und es war ziemlich laut bis in die Nacht hinein (OK, war ein Samstag). Für eine Übernachtung auf der Durchreise aber total i.O.
Übernachtung problemlos möglich, lecker gegessen und getrunken, sehr nettes Personal - aber sehr laute Straße führt direkt am Pub vorbei. Hinter dem Pub gute Möglichkeit mit dem Hund laufen zu gehen
Starting Gate is a great pub with very good food. Staff were superb. Photos are from indide pub, but a Campervan can be seen outside. Very recomendable.
Endroit très calme,bien situé. Seul reproche,les toilettes ne sont plus accessibles à la fermeture du pub (23 h). A part ça, le personnel du pub est très sympathique.Bonne adresse!
I stayed here on Thursday night. The staff were incredibly friendly and very welcoming. Its on a main road but you can park behind the pub which was quiet. The pub is located within a residential area right on the edge of a lovely lake. great for walking. If you like American style eating then the pub food is for you and dog friendly. on Thursday, it is buy one get one free on all burgers
Great stop with plenty of spaces good for large vans. Manager was very helpful and welcoming. We used the spot to stay close to a festival at colwick park.
Nice and quiet spot, there were a few campers on site and it's a very flat surface. We just turned up and it was not a problem to park (it was a Monday so it was pretty empty and quiet). Dinner at the pub was good and staff was very friendly. Toilets open only during opening hours (12:00-23:00).
I called up the day before & the person I spoke to was really helpful. He told me where to park so the van would be on CCTV. The food was decent and the staff were friendly. It was a bit rowdy inside, but it was a Friday night. The carpark was quiet though. I wouldn't hesitate to use this location again.
