The carpark is okay just slightly sloping. No drinking water or waste bins. CDP is filthy with no water for rinsing cassette. Could be a great aire if better facilities provided and looked after. If you don't need to empty your toilet there are far nicer places to stay along this road.

  • 3/5

Old visitor centre, cafe, toilets now closed. Was bought by The Scottish Dark Sky Observatory (SDSO) in Nov 2024, who will be redeveloping new centre due to open late 2026. Since end May 2025 now a Campra Certified Aire - payment £10 for overnight via RingGo app or AireStop site. Nothing but CDP - no other facilities at the moment. Great quiet location overnight.

  • 2/5

  • 5/5

Great views, peaceful with little night traffic. shame visitor centre and cafe closed. water tap doesn't work anymore. can't pay if you wanted to.

  • 5/5

Great views. Great site for an overnight stay

  • 5/5

Great spot! Considering it was a Saturday night there was still quite a bit of space. Can walk right down to the water. Chemical waste only, no toilets. Next to a busy road but didn’t really hear any cars after about 10pm! Good for a one night stop over

  • 3/5

Great free black waste disposal. Road is busy and fast . Ok for one night .

  • 1/5

In a country with more freshwater stored in Loch Ness than all of Wales and England combined, I find it shocking that we can't be provided with a basic tap to rinse our toilet cassettes out. Clatteringshaws Loch is literally 10 metres away! Why can we get a feed from there? Scotland is so far behind the rest of Europe in terms of van life services. It's embarrassing and so frustrating!

  • 5/5

Waste disposal still operational despite car park no longer charging & visitor centre being closed down. Toilets locked but water tap still open if you want to fill a canister. Huge car park, fairly level. No bin. Peaceful night.

  • 4/5

toilets closed at the minute so parking is free Nice place Little bit of road noise though

  • 5/5

    Toller Platz mit Toilettenentsorgung

  • 5/5

Stayed here last night for 1 night. Large space, quiet at night, view of the loch from the far end of the car park. This is in a Dark Sky Park, wow the stars are amazing! There is a walk near by for around 25 mins which has stunning ferns, flowers and scenery. There is a chemical toilet disposal area. Beautiful location, we would highly recommend. R x

  • 5/5

free nights stay. the code doesn't work. quiet at night. you can empty your cassette here. but there are no bins.

  • 4/5

Stayed here for 1 night, lovely views of Loch, peaceful night some passing traffic but not much, full of motorhomes & felt safe. unable to pay as machine/app not working. No facilities, toilet & visitor centre closed.

  • 5/5

had a great few days here,no facilities as toilets and visitors centre closed, perfect for kayaking

  • 5/5

Very nice view and so so quiet! Such a relaxing stay and noone bothered us while we were there. The code doesn’t work so you can’t pay but £7 defenitely worth it!

  • 5/5

We scouted here and Raiders Road/Otter Pools. This was a prettier spot. Only downside was three "12" year old Spice Girls pulled up in a car, got out and sang/screeched/shouted etc for about 20 minutes, but didn't last long. Couldn't pay via Ring Go as the code was wrong. Another van parked up said not to worry but just pay in the morning if a ranger comes round, so overall a lovely night.

  • 5/5

Great spot, right next to Loch & short 10min walk to Bruce’s Stone. The odd passing car but nothing major. Room for 7 overnight. Visitor centre closed but toilets open. Elsan Point available. Tried paying but code on app doesn’t match code given on board so couldn’t pay. Would definitely come again.

  • 5/5

Beautiful stopover. Clear night and the stars were amazing. Sadly unable to pay as the code was invalid and the other code only worked till midnight. I emailed the forestry contacts but zero reply. Another motorhome had same issue.

  • 4/5

Lovely spot - you can now stay overnight for £7 until end October 2024. Emptied our black waste for free but the visitors centre was closed, toilets locked and the water tap outside the toilets turned off.

  • 4/5

Great spot. Please pay if you park overnight and keep it litter free so this great location with toilet disposal is kept available for the van community to use. Right next to reservoir with great views and walks.

  • 5/5

Lovely quiet stay. Great views. Fortunate to see a starry sky. Chemical waste disposal for eco loo waste for those who need it. Although cafe permanently closed the loos are open. Handy. I tried to pay for the night but as its Nov the app wouldn't take payment.

  • 5/5

Visitor centre is now permanently closed, toilet facilities, chemical waste remain open and daytime parking fees have been removed. Overnight charge still applies. Great spot with access to the water down the gravel path at the far side of the carpark - site is close to road but quietens down at night

  • 5/5

  • 4/5

Good view of the lock The stars were worth a gaze at around midnight Only draw back was it’s very near the road although was quiet on Sunday We had 4 Vans alongside us which made us feel at ease as it’s our first wild camp. theres a decent dog walk along the shore. Or theres a longer walk or off road cycling 1 mile down the road with overnight stop off on Raiders Road.

  • 4/5

Borne pour vider les WC chimiques super ! Surtout qu'il y en a très peu dans la région, merci beaucoup !

  • 4/5

what an excellent service as it is a bit of a nightmare to get cassette toilet emptied. we see so many self contained motorhomes that Scotland/ Uk should be a bit more accomodating. We are sooo lucky in New Zealand to not have that problem. Thank you very much for making this possible

  • 3/5

Présence de midges +++ au coucher du soleil et au lever. Parking sans grand intérêt mais pratique pour s’y arrêter une nuit.

  • 5/5

Handy to have black water disposal in the area! Didn’t stay here but stayed at a free spot further out the way for many days on our last trip to Scotland. Loch is stunning and there’s some good stargazing here!

  • 1/5

Now part of Motorhome overnight parking scheme, need to buy 2x £4 tickets to stay overnight. Drove on few hundred metres to free lay-by overlooking the Loch.

  • 3/5

No overnight parking sign now in place.

  • 5/5

Chemical disposal is super handy. Cafe staff super lovely. Had a nice breakfast in the morning and some lovely walks.

  • 5/5

Fab flat site. Visitors centre, well priced cafe and toilets. Heads up,over zealous, not rude/ not very friendly forestry employee arrived 9.45am checking tickets & waited until after 10am to see if left or not. Don't park longways along the Loch side, she mentioned that as a no no. we moved 30 secs onto a lay by & walked back for breakfast/loos

  • 4/5

As everyone has said it’s £6, payable by the machine or in the cafe. Some road noise. Great views of the lake.

  • 4/5

Good spot, as expected busy during the day, loads of room. Has toilet emptying point, water tap at visitors centre. Had afternoon tea at visitor centre which was excellent. Only the occasional traffic on nearby road.

  • 5/5

A nice, level car park with a beautiful big Loch and nice walks. Free toilets outside the cafe, I think they shut when the cafe does. We were treated to a beautiful sunset over the Loch. There were midges at dusk but they weren't too bad.

  • 3/5

Lovely spot with great views, but the midges were very bad. The only downside of our stay.

  • 3/5

Fantastic views and great food in the visitors center. Toilets during open hours and a chemical toilet emptying point. No height restrictions and £6 for the night. Felt very safe. Midges. Never experienced midges as bad as this anywhere in Scotland before! Absolutely swarmed the van. To be fair the staff were shocked too, apparently never usually this bad. Had to move on very early hence 3*

  • 3/5

Lovely view, excellent cafe and facilities (chemical waste disposal and toilet block (we are self contained so didn’t need) but we got absolutely attacked by midges (constantly topped up midge repellant, used citronella and incense and had a bug zapper light.. still covered in midges and bitten terribly!

  • 4/5

Excellent spot to park overnight for £6!! Only downside is you have to pay in coins ….. beware of the midgies

  • 5/5

We didn't used the site for the night, but Elsan emptying Station is very convenient

  • 5/5

Great idea - having these Forestry Sites. Now up and running so need to buy 2 x £3.00 tickets after 6pm and leave by 10.00. 6 vans total. Overlooking the lake. Road reasonably busy, but little traffic overnight. Very friendly in cafe with good simple food. Is a Dark Sky Park, although cloud meant we saw nothing. Nice bike ride a mile down the road.

  • 4/5

Motorhomes can park overnight here at a cost of £6, you need to buy 2 day tickets after 6pm until 10am the next morning. We have a 7.4m motorhome parked for 1 night no probs 2 other MH along side us, only a slight noise from the road and quiet after 9pm. Nice view of the lake, elsan point in the car park there is no water here.

  • 5/5

Brilliant facility! Didn't stay here as signs say no overnight parking. But chemical toilet disposal and fresh water tap are still open despite end of the overnight parking trial (and covid-19 lockdown). Toilet block is closed. Great view across the lake

  • 5/5

Arrived at midnight on a Friday, car park full so parked in the coach area and left pretty early. No issues and beautiful view to wake up to to!

  • 4/5

Lovely spot by the Loch. Only services available at night is chemical WC emptying. Price is still £3 per day at moment. If you stay past 10a.m. you have to pay the parking charge again. Road noise from 6a.m. About 6 vans were there the night we stayed.

  • 4/5

Very pretty location. just a shame they didn't put a drinking water tap in the carpark. Sadly a few campers had chairs etc out (camping behavioir) and I hope that doesn't damage the forestry commission trial.

  • 4/5

Beautiful spot by the lake, however downsides are also directly next to main road and traffic passing at 50mph from 6am, and toilets are closed at 4pm. There is water and chemical toilet facilities though. It’s was busy with campers (about 9 overnight )

  • 4/5

Free parking between 6pm-10am! Lovely view of the loch. Chemical waste disposal on site. Very nice, easy stay, half way up to Ben Nevis for us. Only negative is passing traffic on road that’s very close.

  • 5/5

What a beautiful little spot. They are doing a trial for campers and motorhomes so its free for August. has a lovley view over the loch. there is fresh water and chemical disposal. toilets are locked after 4pm though. really quite. There are spaces for about 10-15 vans and about 9 vans at the moment.

  • 3/5

Free overnight parking, Arrived late in the evening to get a view of the night sky, we thought it was cloudy but got a really good view. There was already 4 Van's parked up and it was a quiet night stop over before moving on. Wish we had known about the dreaded Midges as they became quote bad, then awoke to loads in the camper, 48hes later realised we had been bitten alive

  • 2/5

Stayed here for our 1st night in Scotland, we arrived late evening and there was already 3/4 campervan there and a few cars arrived to take photos but was a quiet night spot. Lovely spot but wish we knew about the dreaded midges that seemed to be bad late on and early morning, we ended up being eaten alive(be warned and take repellent). Toilet block open during cafe opening times

  • 5/5

Nice spot by the Loch. Popular during the day and at night with motorhomes. Nice cafe right beside. Wonderful dark sky for stargazing. Water tap by toilets a short walk from the parking. Toilets closed at night. Great stopover - thanks Forestry Scotland.
