Very good, slightly sloping, spot if you can get in. Seems to be used entirely by the local residents with no parking options at their property. Can't blame them for that. The Headland car park looks to turn a blind eye to overnighting though - plenty of vans in there these past two nights.
we parked here in our 7 meter long motorhome , very handy for the town never got any problems ,free parking lovely view of the Abbey , can be a little noisy in the morning . can be a bit windy at night as well but it never bothered us.

staying here tonight, 19.07.2025. had a look at the Abby car park but couldn't work out if we could stop the night. so opted for Green Lane, and it's free. Been ok up to now. easy access to the town center about a 15 min walk. lovely place will stop again
Um bom lugar para estacionar gratuitamente. Passamos 3 noites e não tivemos problema. Ótima vista para a Abadia, perto do centro. Porém, é uma rua estreita e super movimentada, de veículos e pessoas e não tem nada de serviço.
3 nights here, a few minutes from town a brewery near if anyone fancy a pint. most important free
lovely park up a bit of road noise but nothing to worry about. Friday night a few kids looked as if they were up to no good but moved on. The walk to Robin Hoods Bay, cliff top walk then the Cinder Path back it's about 13 miles but have a bite to eat and a cuppa at R.H. Bay and wear a good set of boots so many tourists with just trainers on and hurting themselves. Worth a stay.
Stayed here 25/2/25 for one night. There’s basically two option to stay. Stay on the road as we did for free. There’s some traffic but nothing too busy. Or park in the carpark for a fee of £9 per night I think. The road worked well for us and you’re overlooking the Abbey. It’s a short walk into the town centre down the 199 steps. It’s a little harder coming back up.
Stayed here two nights on the 30th and 31st of December 2024. Great view of the Abby, nice and quiet after a certain time, a few other campers as well, Good phone signal. The Fleece pub down the hill, turn right about 15 min walk beautiful location on the harbour. Dog friendly and a sheltered terrace out back. Also recommend Mister Chips a bit further along.
We are back here again for Xmas and have now had 3 nights here alongside a couple of other motorhomes/vans with absolutely no problems at all. The weather has been very kind with plenty of sun and some amazing sunsets. We got speaking to a couple of locals on the beach who said that New Years Eve on the beach is brilliant, with small camp fires and fireworks so we may return next week for that!

Great free spot to stay unbothered but no services unless long walk to cafe. Great views of Abbey that inspired Dracula! Parking is level but cars race by fast 3-4 times at night and some traffic tour busses in the morning. Great to walk along the cliffside and Abbey first thing morning though. Signal 2 bars inside van. 15-20 min walk into town down steep hill. Maybe stay again for Abbey.
This is actually a free parking spot along the road which can accommodate quite a few vehicles. There were only two of us laid up overnight and we didn’t experience much road noise. A really great place to explore the amazing town of Whitby with great views of the Abbey and a lovely sunset.
Parking is on the road but we had a quiet night overall. There was some traffic but basically quietened down by 11:00 and this was a Saturday night. We did see approx 6 vans parked overnight in the car park just over the road but there are signs for no overnight parking. We didn't want to take the chance to be moved-on in the night but the vans were still there in the morning.
One or two cars came past at ridiculous speed during the night, it other than that it was a very quiet and comfortable night. A very short walk in to town There is no parking charge. Care needs to be taken to avoid blocking allotment gates.
just had a lovely night here. parked up around 6pm. lovely walk into the town via the abbey and 99 steps. Very quiet once the boy racers stopped around 10pm. def recommend. right next to the allotment. no bother from anyone. 2 more campers joined for the night.

Wir haben hier 2 Nächte verbracht, um uns die Stadt, die Abtei und die Küste anzuschauen. Ein zentraler Platz und toll, dass das Parken hier nichts kostet. Abends und in der Nacht kamen hin und wieder Autos vorbei, das war dann doch recht laut.
Great place to park for free, easy walk to the abbey, the church and 199 steps, which take you down to the harbour, shops and plenty of fish and chip places!
Free but not quiet over night. For one night OK. Good view to the Abbey and short walk into the village.
quite a narrow road, I would not recommend for parking a motorhome.
Free parking, quiet road and amazing views of the abbey. Very short walk into town to. Would definitely recommend.
Parked for a few hours during the day, no issues. Steep road coming up, not great for large vehicles, otherwise fine. Easy walk into town, uphill coming back.
Nosey local looked what we were doing, we just parked for the morning, I bet this is another spot that might get taken away from us

Near by carparks are ok as well even tho it states no overnight camping
